Enma Midterm Activity3
Part 1 | Answer the following questions by creating a set of possible outcomes for
the sample space (S ={}) and each event (E={}). Then calculate the probability by
using the formula P(E) = n(E)/n(S).
1. Two dice are rolled. Find the probability that the sum is (14 points)
a. Equal to 1
b. Equal to 4
c. Less than 13
2. A die is rolled, and a coin is tossed, find the probability that the die shows an
odd number, and the coin shows a head. (8 points)
1. A jar contains 4 red marbles, 6 green marbles and 10 white marbles. If 3 marbles
are drawn from the jar at random, what is the probability that they have
different colors? (use counting rule and the probability of the event) (10 points)
2. A jar contains 6 red marbles, 4 green marbles and 10 white marbles. If 3 marbles
are drawn from the jar at random, what is the probability that all marbles are
white? (use the probability rule) (8 points)
3. The blood groups of 200 people are distributed as follows: 50 have type A blood,
65 have B blood type, 70 have O blood type and 15 have type AB blood. If a
person from this group is selected at random, what is the probability that this
person has O blood type? (use the probability formula) (4 points)
4. A student goes to the library. Let events B=the student checks out a book and
D=the student checks out a DVD. Suppose that P(B)=0.40, P(D)=0.30 and
P(D|B)=0.5. (use the probability rule) (6 points)
a) Find P(B ∩ D)
b) Find P(B ∪ D)
Part 3 | Name the shaded region in the Venn Diagram. (30 points)
