1- A horizontal steel bar is welded to a vertical
support. Find the load 𝐹 that will cause an allowable shear stress in the throats of the welds. a. 𝑏 = 50mm, 𝑑 = 50mm, ℎ = 5mm and 𝜏𝑎𝑙𝑙 = 140MPa. b. If a centric circular hole is made in the steel bar of diameter 10mm, what is the maximum normal stress in it? c. If The bar has a width of 10mm, what is the normal stress acting on it? d. Repeat part (a) using Electrode E7010. e. If 𝐹 = 20kN, what is the minimum weld leg value considering FS = 1.5. Use 𝜏𝑌,𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑒𝑙 = 250MP and 𝜏𝑌,𝑤𝑒𝑙𝑑 = 100MPa.
2- A horizontal steel bar is welded to a vertical
support. What is shear stress in the weld throat? Use 𝑏 = 101.6mm, 𝑑 = 0.5𝑏, ℎ = 7.95mm, and 𝐹 = 177.92kN.
3- Find the safe force 𝐹 if the allowable shear
stress in the welds is 𝜏𝑎𝑙𝑙 = 140MPa. Use 𝑏 = 𝑑 = 50mm, 𝑐 = 150mm and ℎ = 5mm. 4- Find the safe weld thickness ℎ to withstand a force 𝐹 = 12.1kN if the allowable shear stress of the weld material is 𝜏𝑎𝑙𝑙 = 140MPa. Use 𝑏 = 𝑑 = 50mm, and 𝑐 = 150mm.
5- A steel bar is welded to a vertical support as
shown in the figure. Find the safe force 𝐹 if the maximum allowable shear stress in the welds is 𝜏𝑎𝑙𝑙 = 140MPa. Use 𝑏 = 𝑑 = 50mm, 𝑐 = 150mm and ℎ = 5mm.
6- The permissible shear stress for the
weldments shown is 137.9MPa. Based on the weldment of the cylinder and plate 𝐴, estimate the load, 𝐹, that will cause this stress in the weldment throat. Repeat the analysis based on points C and D.
7- A steel bar of thickness ℎ = 5mm is subjected
to a bending force 𝐹. The vertical support is stepped such that the horizontal welds are 𝑏1 = 30mm and 𝑏2 = 50mm long. Determine 𝐹 if the maximum allowable shear stress is 𝜏𝑎𝑙𝑙 = 140MPa. Use 𝑐 = 150mm and 50mm.
