Colors
Colors are a fun part of pre-
school. Identifying and naming
colors are important skills for
children to learn. Your child will
be off to a great start if they
know all of their colors before
entering school.

Go to a dollar store and pick up

some color flashcards to practice
with every week. If your child has a
younger sibling, have your child
“teach” him or her their colors– this
will help to increase the fun and
learning!
Take some paints outside and collect
some stones. Have a little rock painting
party at an outdoor table. This is a
great opportunity to practice color words
while having a ton of fun!

Counting
Numbers and counting are the
basic mathematical skills of pre-
school. Children learn how to count
and recognize their numbers very
early on.

Practice counting up to 20 (or more!)

with your child as often as you can.
Make it a fun game or song while
you do different activities together.

Use everyday objects such as buttons or

beads to practice counting. Line them up
in rows and have your child touch each
one while counting.

While driving in the car, have your

child try to count the cars passing by
– simple games like this will help
your child’s counting skills greatly!
