Computer Scheme of Studies- Class 5


Session 2024 - 2025

Guidelines:

Lesson planning in all quarters should be done in the following manner


1. Out of two lessons one lesson will be conducted in class for topic explanation and the
other will be for practical implementation.
2. All lessons will include practical demonstration with the required gadgets. (Smart
board could be used.)
3. Worksheets relevant to each topic (wherever required)
4. Some relevant questions to be done on notebook.
5. Practical work relevant to each topic (to be emphasized)
6. Relevant project work with revision of all the concepts at the end of each quarter.
7. For teacher’s reference, Digital World Book 3 to be available in school library.

Targets for First Term (Approximately 17 weeks)

Topics:

Learning the basics:

 What is “My Desktop”?


 What is a shortcut?
 How to create a shortcut and delete it?
 What are compressed files and folders?
 How to make compressed files and folders?
 How to un compress a folder?
 Appearance of list of files and Recycle Bin.
 What is screen resolution?
 Control panel settings: date and time, screen settings, personalization and system
sounds
 What is Malware?
 What should be done for computer safety?
 How to use an antivirus?
 Use of antivirus and updating it.

Working with text

 How can you insert a Border?


 How to do formatting, alignment, indentation, line & paragraph spacing, etc.
 How to apply Borders and Shading?
 How can we modify a picture in Word document?
 How to insert picture and its styles & adjustment
 Background settings, artistic effects, borders, position, wrap text, etc.
 What is the shortcut key to find synonym of a word?
 What is the shortcut key to take a print out?
 Demonstrate how to use thesaurus and do corrections, coloured lines
 How to take a print
 Take a print for better understanding
Project work: Create groups of students and ask them to write an article about their city, its
visiting places, with images. Correct any mistakes and print their article and present it in front
of the class.

 How to apply photo effects (tones, colours, exposure)?
 Write the name of the features that can be used in photo adjustment in windows

Project Work: Ask the students to take photos of campus, classmates and teachers. Apply all
features they have learnt and then take a print. Give a score to each photo.

Project work: Create groups of students and ask them to make a presentation on space and
solar system.
Working with numbers

 What is Microsoft Excel?


 Introduction to spreadsheet and Microsoft Excel.
 Demonstration of cells, columns and rows in Microsoft Excel.
 How to insert text and numbers in the spreadsheet in different cells?
 How to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers on spreadsheet?

 to end calculations?

Project Work: Create groups of students and ask them to choose a continent; find the
countries of that particular continent and the population of each country. Enter this
information in a spreadsheet.

Revise all the concepts and practical work.
