In the figure above ( a wordle), each word represents an issue or a problem that
teachers in the field reported. Which of the words do you recognize as a problem?

WHAT FIVE PROBLEMS HAVE YOU IDENTIFIED FROM THE WORDS THAT YOU
HAVE CHOSEN?

The problems I identified are: Which of these five problems have

you spotted? _____ Absenteeism
________
1. Resources
2. bullying
List down your possible actions to
3. Absenteeism solve the problem.

4. Poverty 1. Reward students for

good attendance with
5. ventilation
certificates, recognition, or
small prizes to motivate
regular attendance
2. Enhance classroom
teaching methods, integrate
student-centered learning,
and offer activities that make
learning more engaging and
relevant to students' lives
3. Create a system for
tracking student attendance
in real-time, allowing early
identification of absenteeism
trends and timely
intervention.

The Problem is: The Action is:

1. RESOURCES Encourage resource sharing among
classes or departments and prioritize
the most urgent needs.
2. POVERTY Connect families to local services and
programs that offer financial
assistance or basic necessities
3. BULLYING Train teachers and staff to recognize
and address bullying promptly, and to
foster inclusive, supportive
classrooms.

What have you noticed about the problem identified above? Can there be more
than one solution to the problem? _________ Explain:
Multiple solutions are frequently required because each problem affects various parts of
kids' life and school dynamics. For example, tackling resource scarcity necessitates not
only finance, but also collaboration and imaginative use of available materials. Poverty
influences pupils in numerous ways, from academic performance to emotional well-
being, needing diverse interventions including feeding programs and financial aid.
Bullying requires behavioral, cultural, and regulatory changes, therefore awareness,
support, and strong enforcement are required to achieve long-term change. In short,
effective resolution of these issues necessitates a broad, multifaceted strategy

FOR YOU TO DO:

Here are some scenarios that might also be similar to the class you have
observed and noticed.

Scenario A: Teacher A is a grade 4 teacher in a typical elementary school. She

has 40 learners in her class. Half of them cannot classify animals into vertebrates and
invertebrates. She has been repeating the same lesson for two weeks, yet no
progress was observed. This situation has been bothering Teacher A.
• Can you identify Teacher A’s problem?
Teacher A's problem is that her instructional approach is not effectively
addressing the learning needs of her students. Despite repeating the lesson on
classifying animals into vertebrates and invertebrates for two weeks, half of her
students are still unable to grasp the concept. This indicates that the teaching
strategy she is using may not be suitable for the learners' abilities or learning
styles, and alternative methods or interventions may be needed to improve their
understanding.
• Give at least two suggestions to solve her problem.

1. Since half of the students are struggling, Teacher A can group

students based on their understanding levels. She can provide simpler,
hands-on activities (like sorting pictures or using models of animals) for the
struggling students, while offering more advanced tasks for those who
understand the concept. Differentiating the content, process, and
assessment will cater to varying learning needs.
2. Teacher A can use more visual aids, such as videos or diagrams, to
show the differences between vertebrates and invertebrates. Additionally,
she can incorporate physical activities, like games or role-playing, where
students act out or match animals to categories, making the lesson more
engaging and easier to grasp through various senses.
• What solution can solve her problem?
Differentiated instruction is the best way to address Teacher A's issue.

• How?
Her ability to adapt her teaching methods to the various needs of her students
allows her to give more focused assistance to individuals who have trouble
categorizing animals. Through differentiation, she can tailor tasks to each
student's level of comprehension, present a variety of learning resources such as
visuals and hands-on activities, and provide individualized or small-group
instruction. This strategy should aid in improving retention and comprehension in
the pupils who are having difficulty.

• Are they matched with the problem?

Yes they matched with the problem

Scenario B: Teacher B teaches in a disadvantaged urban community. Most of his

learners come from families that are disrupted, either with single parents or with their
guardians who stand only as parents. They are deprived of the necessary food,
clothing, and shelter.
Can you identify the most probable teaching-learning problem/s in the class of
Teacher B?
1. Low Academic Performance and Motivation: Due to unstable home environments,
students may lack the necessary support for completing assignments, studying, or
participating in school-related activities. This can lead to low academic achievement,
absenteeism, and a lack of motivation to succeed in school.
2. Behavioral and Emotional Issues: Students from challenging family situations may
exhibit behavioral problems or emotional difficulties, such as acting out, withdrawing, or
having difficulty forming relationships with peers and teachers. This can create
classroom management challenges and impact their overall learning experience
Can you propose a solution to one of the problems that you have identified?
Teacher B should concentrate on developing relationships with pupils that are based on
trust. This might provide a feeling of security and stability that they might not have in
their homes. Frequent check-ins, empathetic behavior, and supportive words can
improve students' emotional health and drive to learn.
Students who don't have support at home can benefit from the creation of study groups
or tutoring after school. This provides students with a specific area and time to finish
assignments under supervision.

FOR REFLECTION:
Based on the scenarios given above, how would identifying problematic
situations and finding solutions to these problems help you to become a better
teacher?
Explain:
By recognizing difficult situations and coming up with solutions, I can become a more
effective teacher by encouraging flexibility and responsiveness to the various
requirements of my students. Whether they are academic, emotional, or environmental,
knowing the underlying causes of learning difficulties enables me to modify my teaching
methods in a way that promotes student success. All students will benefit from a more
inclusive and supportive learning environment that I can provide by addressing
concerns like emotional challenges or low motivation. Using a problem-solving
approach gives me the tools I need to fulfill the individual needs of every student and
keep improving my teaching strategies.
ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS:

OBSERVE:
What problematic situation prevails in the classroom:
The challenging scenario that exists in the classroom is that a large number of students
encounter obstacles to learning as a result of outside variables such challenging home
situations, insufficient access to necessities like food and housing, emotional and
behavioral problems, and low motivation for learning. These elements seriously impair
students' capacity to pay attention, participate in class, and do well academically, posing
problems for both educators and students.

REFLECT:
What changes do you want to achieve?
Enhanced Student Engagement, My goal is to establish a more welcoming and
encouraging learning atmosphere where students of all backgrounds are inspired and
ready to participate in classes.

PLAN:
What strategies will you use to improve the situation?
Build Strong Relationships, Foster a secure, inviting classroom climate, demonstrate
empathy, and offer emotional support to kids in order to build rapport and trust.

ACT:
What would be the title of your action research should you conduct the study?

Enhancing Academic Engagement and Performance in Disadvantaged Students:

Action Taken in the study
Title of Action Research:
"Improving Student Engagement and Academic Achievement through Interactive
Learning Strategies"
Author/s:
Jane Doe, John Smith
Abstract:
The goal of this action research was to improve the low academic performance and
student involvement in a Grade 5 classroom. The goal of the six-month project was to
increase academic results and student involvement by using interactive learning
methodologies. The curriculum incorporated a range of participatory techniques, such
as group projects, multimedia, and hands-on learning. Observations, student
evaluations, and academic tests were used to gather data. The outcomes showed
improvements in academic achievement along with a notable rise in student
engagement. According to the research, interactive learning techniques can
successfully create a more stimulating and effective learning environment, which will
improve student performance.
Problem of the Study:
The study addressed the problem of low student engagement and poor academic
performance in the classroom.
Action Taken in the Study:
The action taken included integrating interactive learning strategies such as group
activities, multimedia resources, and hands-on projects into the curriculum to enhance
student engagement and academic achievement.
