Which speech you liked and why (highlighting the content, verbal and non-verbal
strategies put to use by the speaker)
The speech I personally liked the most was about Euthanasia given by Pratik Badrinath. As
someone deeply connected to the issue, I feel Pratik covered majority points about it - with
its legalization, why there should be an option to do the same along with giving some cons
for the issue at hand. The speech was extremely comprehensive and presented the listener
with both sides of the same coin.
The speech was very well-structured and concise. He did not deviate from the topic at all and
moved from one point to another seamlessly without making it too confusing for the listener.
He was also very confident in the way that he spoke and loud enough that the entire
classroom could hear him. Pratik managed to capture the essence of each sub topic, going
into the topic only as much as needed to gain enough clarity to understand its role in the
legalization while also citing real world example which helped understand the issue better.
He broke the topic down very well, explaining it as a story in a way that ensured that people
who haven’t heard of euthanasia before understand it while at the same time he kept it
neutral enough to ensure that he isn’t coloring anyone thoughts with his speech.
All in all, I think this was a very good speech with little to no room for improvement the way
I see it.
Which speech, according to you could be improved (you need to suggest some pointers of
improvement).
One speech that, according to me could be improved was by Sushnt. Some suggestions I
have for the speaker are:
1) Structure your thoughts: It seemed as if the speaker was just blurting out different
points which caused him to mix up his points, get confused and eventually result in
him stuttering a lot and spending 15-30 seconds just trying to recover from the slip-
up. Instead, if he had structured his thoughts regarding what to say when and order
them, this could have been avoided.
2) Repetitive content: Despite the topic being very vast, the speaker used the same points
again and again which made the topic very repetitive and caused the listener to lose
interest. Exploring more points, facts, and numbers would have helped keep the
listeners captivated.
3) Pace: The speaker was also very slow and stopping every other second to remember
his speech. It seemed as if he had memorized a paragraph and was trying to
remember it throughout the duration of his speech. I’d suggest him to understand the
content rather than memorize it. In this way he will retain it for a longer duration,
moreover, his speech will seem natural rather than a long memorized script.
