Scoring :

The scoring procedure for the Sexual Orientation Scale is very objective and separate

dimension-wise interpretation strictly needs to be followed for both males and females for an

accurate evaluation.

The 28 items are to be rated in 4 point likert scale as follow,

Always -3;

Sometimes - 2;

Rarely -1;

Never - 0.

Dimensions for Male Participants :

The respective dimensions for male participants as follow,

(i) Heterosexual : 1, 5, 10, 13, 18, 22, 25,

(ii) Homosexual : 2, 6, 9, 14, 17, 21, 26,

(iii) Bisexual : 3, 7, 11, 15, 19, 23, 27,

(iv) Asexual : 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28

Dimensions for Female Participants :

The respective dimensions for female participants as follow,

(i) Heterosexual : 2, 6, 9, 14, 17, 21, 26,

(ii) Homosexual : 1, 5, 10, 13, 18, 22, 25,

(iii) Bisexual : 3, 7, 11, 15, 19, 23, 27,

(iv) Asexual : 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28

Interpretation :

If the score is higher in a particular dimension, it shows more about the subject's sexual

orientation in the long run.

Homosexual

Bisexual

Asexual

Ultimate Sexual Orientation

Note :

If the subject has scored the same score in both the heterosexual and homosexual
dimensions, then he/she will be considered bisexual. Any other scores that are very
close to each other between dimensions will be rejected and can be seen as a sign
that the subjects didn't answer the questionnaire truthfully.
This scale will not provide the causes of one's sexual orientation, and it is only
administrable for people who are over the age of 18 years. This is not applicable to
the transgender or third-gender population.
This scale is only for people who identify as male or female and are trying to figure
out their sexual orientation.

Test-retest Reliability (rr) = 0.96

Spearman-Brown and Guttman Split Half Reliability = 0.73
