design process, to produce a geometric configuration of a
space layout that is in accordance with the project's
requirements. By nature, space programming is an iterative
process that evolves according to the client’s requirements. A
critical challenge of space programming is the limitation in
the link between the client’s requirements and design tools.
Space Programming 03
WHAT IS IT?
Space programming is utilized in the architectural
programming phase thru criterions which
establishes a sufficient data for an estimated
area based on population, furniture fixture, what
type of activity and circulation space. It also
gives the designer an idea whether the space is
insufficient or too large.
04 ROOM AREAS CAN BE SUMMARIZED
BASED ON THE NUMBER OF

HOUSEHOLD
FLEXIBILITY IS IMPORTANT.

GIVEN:
QUIZ-PR01 –
Refer to the design problem: “A
Proposed Loft-Type House” SPACE
PROGRAMMING
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Make a Space Programming table similar to the
sample computation layout presented in the
previous section (Table 1.5)
2. Draw bubble diagrams showing circulation and
inter-relationship of the required rooms. Explain
your layout briefly.
3. Place table and diagram/s in one or two short
bond paper. Follow format and title block for short
bond paper
A PROPOSED LOFT-
TYPE HOUSE
17
Design problem:
A couple decided to build
a loft-type house on one
of their property. The lot
is a slightly narrow piece
AR 1211/D DESIGN 2
of land bounded by two
private properties on each
side. The northern side of
the lot has a good view of
a lake.
