Client expectation: First and foremost is CONFIDENCE AND COMMUNICATION

Key points:

1. Clarity in communication. No blabbering


2. To the point answer. Don’t elaborate and include jargons even if you know for e.g.
Question: What is DHCP?

Your answer should be DHCP is dynamic host configuration protocol by which a device gets IP address
dynamically.

Don’t go into DORA process unless client ask specifically, If you are going to give more information on
particular topic, client will get more space to ask more from your answers.

See the below answer for the above question. Its correct answer but giving more space to client to shoot
up more questions

>> DHCP is dynamic host configuration protocol by which a device gets IP address dynamically. It follows
DORA process, device send the discover message to find the available DHCP servers. If there is DHCP
server configured, it will send the offer and client give his acceptance for the IP address in the offer by
send a request and get an acknowledgement back.

Now, on this answer client may ask you next, how device finds the DHCP servers configured?? To avoid
this further question from your answer, just give pin-pointed answer unless question like this below

If client question like this:

What all you know about DHCP?

Answer to this question should be elaborate but again don’t include jargons otherwise client will ask
from those and will impose bad image. For e.g. If you include when DHCP server in same network and
when DHCP server in different network. Will again give client more space to ask more questions.

3. Internal candidates (MOVED FROM OTHER PROJECTS TO 8X8) should not disclose anything about
internal migration however client may ask you why you have come from other project to 8x8.

For e.g. Why you have chosen 8x8 being working in Palo Alto for 4 months?

Answer: It was an IJP (internal job posting) I have applied for. I would like to add up my knowledge in
telecom concepts like VOIP and SIP.
Client may ask you, what do you know about 8x8?

Answer: 8x8 company provides VOIP and video conferencing solutions.

Do you know why it is called 8x8?

Answer: Not sure but I have read somewhere, it named on number of video pixels.

Anything further client ask on above question. Just say- sorry not sure

4. If you know the answer then only reply, don’t give fake answers. For e.g. below
Question: Why a computer or networking devices needs an IP address

Answer: Devices can be configured with IP address statically or dynamically allocated by DHCP server

>> Does this answer the question, rather we should tell IP address significance like below

IP address is a logical address by which it recognizes the network for communication

5. Login at least 5 minutes before your assessment time. Late login will pose a bad image in starting
itself.

6. For internal employees only: if you moved from other projects to 8x8 like Palo Alto, juniper etc.….
Client may ask you something more on routing protocols or DNS or DHCP etc.……. First and foremost
thing is don’t elaborate your answers unless necessary and don’t include jargons like DHCP relay, OSPF,
BGP, DNS queries, Zones, etc……

1. If 2 DHCP servers configured in network, from which DHCP server client will get an IP address

Probing:

>>Is the same DHCP IP pool configured on both DHCP server

If Client answer: Yes

Then client will send the discover which is a broadcast will go to both DHCP servers whoever send the
offer first to client, client will acquire IP from that DHCP server

If Client answer: No

Then it depends upon the default gateway of the network where client is connected to request IP from
certain pool.

>> Default gateway is the exit point of any network. If one network wants to communicate with other
network, all data traffic will go through the default gateway.

2. In which situation a PC gets an error IP conflict? How PC detects an IP conflict?

>>When the same IP assigned to some different device which PC has. Whenever we boot the PC, it send
the GARP (Gratuitous ARP) broadcast to all devices and if PC gets a reply which means some device has
same IP address assigned. It happens in situation when certain PC not in the network and anybody
assign its IP statically to his machine.
