INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATE:
1. This paper contains seven questions. Answer all questions in this paper.
2. For practical questions, create a folder on the desktop. Name the folder with your
computer number. Save all attempted practical questions in the folder numbering
them clearly
3. Marks for each question are indicated at the end of the question
(c) Insert an IF function in cell F7, F8, F9, and F10 to find out whether the business was
making a loss or profit from week 1 to week 4. (5 marks)
(d) Format the spreadsheet such that it has a nice border, font type Palatino Linotype, and

QUESTION TWO (Practical)
What is the binary system?
A number system that has just two unique digits, 0 and 1
• A single digit is called a bit (binary digit)
• A bit is the smallest unit of data the computer can represent
• By itself a bit is not very informative
The two digits represent the two off and on states
What is a byte?
Eight bits are grouped together to form a byte
0s and 1s in each byte are used to represent individual characters such as letters of
the alphabet, numbers, and punctuation
What are two popular coding systems to represent data?
American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII)
Extended Binary Coded Decimal Interchange Code (EBCDIC)
Sufficient for English and Western European languages
Unicode often used for others
Make the following amendments
a) Use the whole data given above [2]
b) Select the presentation design [1]
c) The text font type should be Bodoni MT and font size 24 [2]
d) The first slide should have an introduction with an appropriate title using Word Art

A newly established company (Tentalized Ltd) has for some time now been managing its data
requirements using flat files; such as Excel. As the data increases in size, it was becoming
difficult to maintain the data integrity (Accuracy and consistency). Extraction of information
from the data was also becoming difficult. An ICT consultant who was engaged advised that
the company needed to move away from the use of flat file to a Database System like
Microsoft Access.
(a) Explain why a Database System was a better system for Tentalized Ltd as opposed to
the use of a flat file system Microsoft Excl. (4 marks)
(b) Compare and contrast between the Database and Database Management System
(DBMS). (4 marks)
(c) With the aid of a diagram, explain the components of a database system (4 marks)
(d) Discuss the 5 advantages and 3 disadvantages of using a database system (8 marks)

QUESTION SEVEN (Practical): TYPE IN FOLLOWING IN WORD AND MAKE
THE AMENDMENTS THAT FOLLOW. USE THE WHOLE TEXT
a) Plan – Give priority to study sessions with your tutor and make sure you allow
enough travel time to your meeting place. Make a study schedule and try to stick to it.
b) Manage your time – Set aside a reasonable amount of time each week for your study
programme – but don’t be too ambitious or you won’t be able to keep up the pace.
c) Be organized – Have your study materials organized in one place and keep your
notes clearly labelled and sorted.
d) Find a good place to study – Most people need order and quiet to study effectively,
so try to find a suitable place to do your work – preferably somewhere where you can
leave your study materials ready until next time.
e) Ask for help if you need it – This is the most vital part of studying at a distance. No
matter what the difficulty is, seek help from your tutor or fellow students straight
away.
f) Don’t give up – If you miss deadlines for assessments, speak to your tutor – together
you can work out what to do. (5 marks)
MAKE THE FOLLOWING AMENDMENTS
Set the font style for the whole document to Garamond. Set the font size to 12 for the
document, and 14 for the heading. The font colour must be blue for the whole
document. (2 marks)
The heading (Title) should be bold, Centre aligned, and Underlined. (1 marks)
The whole typed document must have line spacing of 1.5 (1 marks)
Using the footer, insert page numbers, your computer number, and an automatically
updatable date. (2 marks)
Insert a blank page below the document and insert five auto shapes with colours of
your choice. (2 marks)
The first two paragraphs must be italicized and centre aligned. (1 mark)
The last paragraph should be fully justified. (1 mark)
A few lines below the paragraph, type your computer number and today’s date
(1 mark)
Proof read the document and change the page orientation to landscape. (1 marks)
The page background colour should be yellow (1 mark)

Insert a watermark “We are Men and Women of substance” (1 mark)
Create a folder on the desktop. Label it with your computer number. Put all your
answers in this folder, zip it and upload it on Moodle. (1
