Polynomials (Revision Test)

Maximum Marks-70 Time taken- 2.5 HRS

This test contains 21 questions. Answer each and every question, every question is
compulsory to do. Internal choice is given in three questions. Before starting with the

remainders R1 and R2 respectively. Find the values of a in each of the following cases, if.
(i) R1 = R2 (ii) R1 + R2 = 0 (iii) 2R1 – R2 = 0

Ques 17 If 𝑎𝑥 3 + 𝑏𝑥 2 + 𝑥 − 6 has x + 2 as a factor and leaves a remainder 4 when divided by (x – 2), find
the values of a and b

Ques 18 Let R1 and R2 be the remainders of 𝑥 3 + 2𝑥 2 − 5𝑎𝑥 − 7 and 𝑥 3 + 𝑎𝑥 2 − 12𝑥 + 6 are divided
by x + 1 and x – 2 respectively. If 2R1 – R2 = 6, find the value of a.

Ques 22 If f(x)= 𝑥 4 − 2𝑥 3 + 3𝑥 2 − 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏 is a polynomial such that when it is divided by x – 1 and x + 1,


the remainders are respectively 5 and 19. Determine the remainder when f(x) is divided by (x – 2)
