Vallejo:

Hello, welcome to my tutorial about painting red armor.

The steps that I’m about to present are very simple, so this time I
won’t have much to explain. I also recorded a video tutorial to
explain exactly how I make such saturated colors, like this space
marine.

Vallejo:
White

The first step, like always when I want to paint a very saturated
color, was painting the white base color on the miniature. If you
don’t know where to paint these white areas (they are suppoused
to be where the light reflects on the armor) just take your miniatu-
re, iluminate it with one strong source of light, like a desktop lamp
and paint over the places that are illuminated.

Vallejo:
Deep Yellow

Now I simply painted 2 thin layers of Deep Yellow paint over the
white areas.

Andrea Red
Paint Set:
3rd Light

Now I did the same thing using 3rd Light from Andrea red paint set.
Of course you can use another brand, just try to add a bit of yellow
paint to your red paint untill you get a simillar color to the one in the
square on the right side.

Andrea Red
Paint Set:
Base

Now I painted stripes on the edges of red areas with Base Red
paint. If you want to have a less „radioactive” color then
leave a thin stripe of 3rd Light in the middle and cover the edges
with Base Red.

Andrea Red
paint Set:
1st shadow

In this step I painted vertical stripes with 1st shadow on the outer
edges of these previously painted with base red. They might be
bearly visible (zoom the pdf, these pictures are very big) but they
are there and they are suppoused to be as wide as the ones
painted before.

In the last step I blended all the layers together. The process is
easy, but time consuming. To make everything smooth I start
blending from the brightest area. I take the brightest color that was
used on the miniature (3rd red) and I gently paint tiny, vertical stri-
pes using just the tip of my brush on the space beetween the bri-
ghtest stripe in the middle and the stripe next to it (in this case Base
Red). Later I did the same thing, but painting with base red over the
next area with 1st Shadow stripe. And then I blended the darkest
stripe with the base doing the same thing but with a mixture of 1st
Shadow and black paint. I also explained everything on the video
tutorial, that’s why I recommend watching it because that’s probably
the best way to show you the process of blending.

Now I would like to thank my philantopists:
