Mental health deals with how we develop and handle our emotions,
psychological aspects, and how we also form relationships. Mental health is crucial
in our development from infancy to adulthood. It helps us develop how we act and
think, it helps us how we handle things. Mental health is a broad topic, it is not a
one-size fits all design, each person deals with mental health differently. That is why
it is important that we learn how to take care of our mental health that fits what we
need.
During the pandemic, I had to stay in our province since the lockdown was
implemented, I wasn’t able to go back home, I had to continue my life staying with
my grandparents. I was in a dark place those days, it was as if I had lost my home. I
tried so hard to tell myself that everything will be okay, but I felt so alone. My
grandparents noticed my behavioural changes, they noticed that I would go to the
bathroom and just stand at the door, or stare at a blank space, those are the times
that I felt anxious and depressed. My grandparents decided that I needed a
consultation with a psychologist. They encouraged me to do an online consultation
with a psychologist. Having my grandparents support me, made it all easy, they
would make sure that I learn how to handle the situation, they make sure that I get to
drink my medications. The support I received from my grandparents made me eager
to get better. Having a support system is important when a person is experiencing
mental health issues, I would not have survived those times if it were not for my
grandparents.
Depression and anxiety took a toll on me, I closed myself from talking to
anyone, I stopped talking to my friends, and when I would look in the mirror I would
be disappointed of myself, I had to continue my studies online, but it was so hard
when I would have anxiety attacks during classes and it affected my grades. But, I'm
glad my friends did not cut me off, they tried to be understanding of my situation and
helped me when I’m having a hard time with my subjects.
