oe FITTING SHO! a Machine tools can produce work at a faster rate, but in some situations, it becomes necessary ty replace and repair the components at the bench. This involves @ certain, amouns of hand fitting. The oo —t—“—~t™”s—sts—s— ss ‘benches. (The accuracy of work done depends upon the experience and skill of the fitter. The term ‘Bench work” refers t0 the production of components by hand on the bench, whereas fitting deals with the assembly of mating parts, through removal of metal, to obtain the required fit. Both bench work and fitting require several simple hand tools and considerable manual efforts’) 1.1 FAMILIARIZE THE TOOLS AND INSTRUMENTS student must have For preparing different forms of mating parts to accurate sizes and shapes, the thorough knowledge regarding the use of various Fitting tools. The tools are classified as follows: 1.1.1,/Marking tools: These tools are used for reproducing the measurements on the job by means of scribing lines for getting required specifications. Examples: Surface Plate, V-block, Angle plate, Try square, Scriber, Punches, Prick, Centre, Number and Letter punches. 1.12 Checking & Measuring tools: These tools are used for accurate measuring and transferring the dimensions correctly on to the work piece and also to inspect the workpiece at various Seribing block, stages, Examples: Pencils and pencil compass, Steel tape, Steel rule, Outside calipers, Inside Calipers, Hermaphrodite calipers, Divider, Combination set, Bevel Protractor, Sine bar Gauges, Vernier calipers, Vernier Height gauge, Vernier Depth gauge, Micrometers. 1.13 Cutting tools: Cutting tools are used to cut the metal approximate size or remove the excess material get desired shape size and accuracy. Examples: Saws, Chisels, Files, Scrapers, Drills, Reamers, Taps and Dies. 1.14 Striking tools: Striking tools are required for hitting the chisels and strikes the jobs. - Examples: Ball peen hammer, Cross peen hammer, Straight peen hammer. 1.15 Holding Tools: These tools or devices are used to hold and support the work during fitting operations Examples: Bench vice, Leg vice, Hand vice, Pin vice, Tool makers vice, Pipe vice Scanned with CamScanner Fitting Shop 4. 16 Miscellaneous tools: The tools used in addition to main tools are known as miscellaneous tools. Examples: Screw drivers, Spanners, Cutting Pliers, Allen keys, File card. 4.2 USES OF TOOLS & INSTRUMENTS —_e__——————— ) Bench Vice: Used for holding the work. Specified by the width of the jaws 2. V-Block: It is a square block with V-groove have included angle of 90°. It is. used for holding cylindrical work firmly. Surface Plate : Used for providing true surface support to the work during marking. | . Angle Plate: Used for holding the work at right angles to the surface plate. Odd Leg Caliper: Used for marking lines parallel to a finished edge and locating centre of round jobs. It is also called as Jenny or Hermaphrodite caliper. Divider: Used for transferring dimensions and scribing circular arcs 7. Outside Caliper: Measuring outside dimensions (thickness & diameters.) 8. Inside Caliper: Measuring inside dimensions (hole diameters, distance between shoulders), 6 Seriber: Used for marking lines on the work piece. p;Dot Punch: Making indentations along the layout lines for easy cutting, Peau Punch: Marking centre of the hold to be drilled. (Bc Saw: Used for sawing the work. Specified by the length and pitch of the blade. “YB. Pipe Vice: Used for hold circular pipes. Specified by the diameter it can hold. 14, Reamer: Used for enlarging and finishing a drilled hole. GB. Ball Peen Hammer: Used for striking the tool or work. Specified by the weight of the hammer. (6 Chisel: Used for chipping the excess metal from the wok piece. Specified by the width of the cutting edge. 17-File: Used for removing excess metal from the work piece for producing smooth surface. ‘Specified by the shape, length and teeth patter, 18. Drill: Used for producing holes in the work. Specified by the diameter of the drill 19, Tap Set: Tap set includes three types of taps and tap wrench, Used for cutting intemal threads. Specified by its diameter. 20. Die Set: Die set includes die and die stock. Used for cutting extemal threads.
