1. Introduction
The "Smart Energy Saver with Volt-Ampere Protection" project aims to enhance
energy efficiency and protect electrical appliances by providing comprehensive
under-overcurrent and voltage protection. This innovative system continuously
monitors voltage and current levels to prevent damage from electrical surges and
fluctuations, thereby extending the lifespan of connected devices. Additionally, it
improves power quality by filtering out polluted signals and mitigating electrical
noise, leading to significant energy savings and enhanced performance. With built-
in surge and shock protection, this solution safeguards sensitive equipment from
unexpected voltage spikes, making it essential for both residential and commercial
applications.
2. Problem Statement
Due to frequent switching from utility supply, semiconductor-based load, inverter-
based load supply source has polluted the quality of the power supply. This results
in harmonics in supply and load consumed more power than it's rating
consequently appliances load over heated and detoriate their operating life. The
rising costs of electricity, driven by fluctuating energy prices and the increasing
demand for power, are placing significant financial strain on both residential and
commercial consumers. This financial burden not only impacts individual
consumers but also stifles economic growth and innovation, as funds that could be
invested in new technologies and improvements are instead diverted to cover
escalating energy costs.

3. Objectives and Deliverables of the Project

8. Project Timeline
Task 1: Research Existing Technologies and Solutions

Task 2: Prepare Project Proposal

Task 3: Design System Architecture

Task 4: Select Hardware Components

Task 5: Develop Software for Energy Monitoring and Control

Task 6: Assemble and Test Hardware Prototype

Task 7: Calibrate Sensors for Accurate Measurements

Task 8: Optimize software and hardware based on testing results.

Task 9: Conduct Field Trials in Real-World Conditions

Task 10: Analyze Results and Optimize the System

9. Risk and Constraints

1. Technical Risks:
 Sensor Malfunction: Sensors may not work as expected or could fail,
leading to inaccurate readings.
 Integration Issues: Difficulty in integrating different components (sensors,
microcontroller, display, etc.) may cause delays.
 Firmware Bugs: Errors in the coding can lead to system failures or
incorrect data reporting.
2. Environmental Risks:

Energy Consumption:

 Risk: If the power-saving device itself consumes more energy than it saves,
it could inadvertently contribute to higher overall energy consumption,
particularly if it relies on high-energy components or inefficient designs.

3. Project Management Risks:

a. Time Constraints: Limited time to complete the project may lead to
rushed work and lower quality.
b. Scope Creep: Uncontrolled changes or additions to the project scope
can lead to delays and resource issues.
4. Data Management Risks:

Data Loss: Risk of losing collected data due to power failure or memory
issues.
Cybersecurity Threats: Potential unauthorized access to the monitoring
system, compromising data integrity and privacy

Electronic Waste:

 Risk: The production and disposal of electronic components (such as

capacitors, filters, and microcontrollers) can generate electronic waste (e-
waste) if not managed properly. E-waste often contains hazardous materials
like lead, cadmium, and mercury, which can leach into the environment.

Constraints
 Budget Constraints:

A fixed budget may limit the choice of components or software, requiring

compromises in quality or features.

 Time Constraints:
The project must be completed within a specific period, impacting the depth of
research and testing

 Technical Expertise:

Limited technical knowledge or experience in designing power-saving devices and

integrating various electronic components may hinder project progress.

Mitigation Strategies

 Regular Testing: Implement frequent testing phases to identify and resolve

technical issues early.
 Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of the system design,
programming, and procedures to facilitate troubleshooting and compliance.
 Budget Management: Monitor expenses closely to stay within budget and
seek alternatives if necessary.
 Skill Development: Engage in learning opportunities or seek assistance
from knowledgeable individuals to fill knowledge gaps.

10. SDG

Sustainable Cities and Communities

The Smart Energy Saver contributes to making cities and human settlements
inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable by improving energy efficiency and
reducing the risk of electrical hazards in urban environments.

Affordable and Clean Energy

This goal emphasizes the importance of ensuring access to affordable, reliable,

sustainable, and modern energy for all. The Smart Energy Saver promotes energy
efficiency by optimizing power consumption and reducing waste, thus contributing
to cleaner energy usage.
Responsible Consumption and Production
This goal focuses on ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns. By
promoting energy-saving practices and protecting electrical devices from damage,
the project encourages responsible use of resources and minimizes environmental
impact.
