COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

Originally under the College of Arts and Letters, the main

trust of the college was to provide technical, industrial,
vocational education to PLM students alongside the
humanistic courses to prepare them for promoting out
technology under two divisions:
• Division of Engineering and Technology
• Division of Technical and Vocational Education
DIVISION OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

• Department of Civil,
• Mechanical,
• Electrical,
• Sanitary,
• Chemical,
• Naval and
• Industrial Engineering
DIVISION OF TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

• Department of Electronics,
• Wood Working,
• Metal Works,
• Automotive Works,
• Ceramics,
• Graphics Arts and
• Teacher Education in Arts and Trades
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
FOUNDATIONAL ERA (1967-1977)
1969 July 01
➢ College of Technology: Divided into 3 divisions, each offering
its own courses:
1. Division of Engineering and Industry: FOUNDATIONAL ERA (1967-1977)
• BS Chemical Engineering, 2. Division of Technical and Vocational Education:
• BS Civil Engineering, ▪ Bachelor of Industrial Education,
• BS Computer Engineering, ▪ Bachelor of Technical and Vocational Education;
• BS Electronics and Communications Engineering and
• BS Electrical Engineering, 3. Division of Applied Science:
• BS Industrial Engineering, ▪ Bachelor of Technology major in various Engineering
• BS Mechanical Engineering, fields.
• BS Naval Engineering, and
• BS Sanitary Engineering
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

FOUNDATIONAL ERA (1967-1977)

1971 June
➢The different divisions of the College of Technology were
phased out and only the following courses were offered:
• BS Chemical Engineering,
• BS Civil Engineering,
• BS Electronics and Communications Engineering,
• BS Electrical Engineering, and
• BS Mechanical Engineering.
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
Development era (1978-1988)
1982
➢The College of Engineering & Technology offered the BS
Manufacturing Engineering
1986
➢The BS Electronics and Communications Engineering and the BS
Manufacturing Engineering were phased out. The former became an
area of BS Electrical Engineering while the latter became an area of
Mechanical Engineering. Said degrees were restored after a few
years.
➢BS Architecture and BS Fine Arts were opened under the CET.
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
Golden era (1989-1999)
1996
➢The once merged Graduate School was abolished and four (4) separate graduate schools were
created, each headed by a Dean: the
• Graduate School of Arts, Sciences, Education & Nursing (from the GPASEN), Graduate
School of Engineering (from the GPE), Graduate School of Business (GSB) and the
• Graduate School of Government (GSG) (from the GPM).
1999
➢The management of the respective computer laboratories were transferred from the PLM
Computer Center to the CET and CBPA, thus, forming the
➢Computer & Internet Laboratories Office (CILO) under the CET.
The Acting President publicly announced the establishment of a new College of Computer
Studies in the next school year by separating the Computer Studies department from CET,
pursuant to the international convention of a separate college for this emerging field.
Obtaining a degree in this college then, required the
student to finish a six-year ladderized program which was later
reduced to a five-year scheme during the term of former PLM
President Consuelo Blanco who felt the imperative need of the
engineering graduates to constitute the country's labor pool.
