1.1 The Teaching and Learning Process

- The teaching and learning process happens anywhere. It is an essential life hack where
we learn basic things such as survival skills, social skills, and many others.

Planning - The preparation stage.

Implementation - It is where teachers execute what was planned.
Assessment - Teachers must have evaluative skills to see if the teaching strategies,
approaches, as well as learning are effective.
Revision - It is where teachers incorporate changes for improvement of teaching to
ensure optimum learning.
1.2 Reflecting on Pedagogy

- According to Waring and Evans (2015), a teacher's understanding of pedagogy can affect
his/her conception about education, the types of learning, the learners, and the society
where they belong.
- Leach and Moon (2008) expressed that teachers are really inquisitive about pedagogy, but
there is a great deal of confusion, contestation, and uncertainty on what pedagogy is.
- Smyth, (1987) According to him, if we are to consider science in an interpretive
perspective, it will be associated with a positivist paradigm which negates any notion of
teachers' and learners' consciousness and potential for transformative capacity.
- On the other hand, Betham and Sharpee (2007) defined pedagogy in the context of
guidance to learn. They posited that learning must be in the context of teaching and the
goal of teaching shall be learning.

Here are some of the definitions about pedagogy:

(1) It can be described as a science of teaching and an art as well;
(2) It can be associated with the importance of dialogue; and
(3) It could also emphasize the concept of dynamism.

1.3 Principles of Effective Teaching and Learning

- Inside your classroom, you are the propeller of the teaching and learning process.

Principle 2. Learning is an active process where learners need to be involved.
