Q2 Lesson 5
Q2 Lesson 5
INSCRIBED
ANGLES OF
CIRCLE
Inscribed Angle
- an angle whose vertex lies on the circle and
the sides contain chords of the circle
1
mABC = mAC
2
mAC = 2(mABC )
∠ABC is an inscribed angle
EG is its intercepted arc
Example:
1 mDF = 2(mDEF )
mDEF = mDF
2
1 mDF = 2(42)
mDEF = (84)
2 mDF = 84
mDEF = 42
2. If two inscribed angles of a circle (or congruent
circles) intercept congruent arcs or the same arcs,
then the angles are congruent.
Since the two inscribed angles ∠BAE ∠FGH intercepts FH and ∠IJK intercepts IK
and ∠BDE intercept the same arc If FH ≅ IK , then ∠ FGH ≅ ∠ IJK
BE is its intercepted arc
∠ BAE ≅ ∠ BDE
Example:
If mBE = 70°, find the measures If mFH and mIK = 60°, find the
of ∠ BAE and ∠ BDE. measures of ∠ FGH ≅ ∠ IJK.
1 mFH = mIK = 60°
mBAE = mBE
2 1
1 mFGH = mFH
mBAE = (70) 2
2
1
mBAE = 35 mFGH = (60)
2 FGH IJK
BAE BDE mFGH = 30 mIJK = 30
mBDE = 35
3. If an inscribed angle of a circle intercepts a
semicircle, then the angle is a right angle.
Example:
Find m∠XYZ in the given figure below.
BAC , BDC
ABD, ACD
