(pg- 48)
m) Viruses are a connecting link between living and non-living things.
(pg-50)

Q-2 The question below consists of an assertion and a Reason. Use the
following key to choose the appropriate answer.

(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.

(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.

a) Assertion (A): The process of removal of waste materials by a living

organism from its body is called excretion.
Reason (R): Some waste produced by animals is in the form of
urine,sweat and carbon di-oxide.

Ans- (b)

b) Assertion (A): In night blindness, there is a poor vision or complete

loss of vision in dark.
Reason (R): It is due to the deficiency of vitamin B

Ans- (c)

c) Assertion (A): Roughage and water are rich in essential nutrients.

Reason (R): A balanced diet must contain roughage and water.

Ans- (d)

d) Assertion (A): The process of settling heavier insoluble particles of a

substance in water known as sedimentation.
Reason (R): This process along with decantation is used to get clear
water from muddy water.

Ans- (a)

e) Assertion (A): The process of conversion of liquid water to its vapours by

heating the liquids called evaporation.
Reason (R): The process of conversion of water vapours to liquid by
cooling the vapours is called condensation.

Ans- (b)

f) Assertion (A) : If the solid dissolves in liquid, then decantation can be

used to separate them.
Reason (R) : Oil and water solution can be separated by decantation.

Ans- (d)
Q-3 The given image shows a kind of deficiency disease in a child. Observe and
answer the questions that follow:

a. Name the disease that child is suffering from.

b. Which nutrient deficiency may cause this disease?
c. How can it be prevented?

Q-4 The image of equipment for separation of substances is given below.

Observe the image and answer the following questions.

Fig.-1 Fig.-2

a. Name the two processes shown in fig.1 and fig. 2.

b. Which of the two processes can be used for separating oil and water?

Case Study Based Questions

1. Obesity is an abnormal increase in body fat which can lead to various other
related health issues like heart problems, blood pressure, hypertension and
many more. Some people think of obesity as only a cosmetic and physical
concern but that is not true. Owing to the seriousness of this world wide
problem, World Obesity Day is also celebrated on 4 March every year. The
lifestyle of people is mainly responsible for this condition accompanied with
excessive intake of fat rich food, junk food and fried food items. Earlier, children
used to play in parks and playgrounds whereas now the preference has been
shifted to mobile phone and computer games. This type of lifestyle has led to
various diseases including obesity in children leading to early rise of many
above mentioned health problems.

1.What are the major causes of obesity in people?

2. Which food items should we avoid to prevent obesity?
3. How can obesity affect the health of a person?
4. What necessary changes should be done in lifestyle to avoid obesity in
growing children ?

2. The measure of solubility determines how substances dissolve into one

another. The substance dissolving into the other is the solute and the substance
being dissolved into is the solvent. When you mix salt into water the salt is the
solute and the water is the solvent. Though the salt does not dissolve into the
water immediately and if a large portion of salt is being dissolved into water,
then there will be a portion of salt left over. Nevertheless, when salt and water
do mix a new substance is formed that can have many practical uses. Solubility
is not limited to just liquids mixing with other liquids, however, solids and gases
can also mix into liquids. A solution is created when the solute's molecules form
intermolecular bonds with the solvent.

1.What do you understand by the terms solute, solvent, solubility and saturated

solution?
2. How does the solubility of the following substances in water vary with the
rise in temperature?
a) Solid
b) Liquid
3. ‘Soft drinks are packed under high pressure.’ Give reason for your
answer
4. Which of the following have higher solubility in water ?
a) Sugar
b) Salt

3. The stem of a plant helps in upward movement of water. The water and
minerals go to leaves and other plant parts attached to the stem.
The part of the leaf by which it is attached to the stem is called petiole. The
broad, green part of the leaf is called lamina. The lines on the leaf are called
Veins. A prominent line in the middle of the leaf is called the midrib. The design
made by veins in a leaf is called the leaf venation. If this design is Net-like on
both sides of midrib, the venation is reticulate. In the leaves of grass you might
have seen that the veins are parallel to one another. This is parallel venation.

Q-1 Write any 2 functions of leaves.

Q-2 How can you determine root type by seeing the leaves of a plant?
Q-3 What do you mean by the term venation? Differentiate between the two types
of venation seen in the leaves.(Give 2 example of each)
Q-4 Explain how transpiration helps the plant in conduction of water and
minerals in plants?
