It can't be denied that living in the city has many

Tet is considered the most important holiday in

Vietnam. The holiday often lasts for 7 days. According
to the lunar calendar, Tet is celebrated in the spring,
often between the end of January and the beginning of
February.

Before Tet, people often leave their work behind and


return to their hometowns. It is one of the few
occasions that people across Vietnam reunite with their
families and spend time with their beloved ones.

Together, people clean and decorate their houses with


colourful lights and flowers. The most important task
is to clean the altar to pay homage to ancestors. To
prepare for Tet, people often rush to the supermarket
on the last days of the year to buy food and groceries.
The street is full of people going shopping and hanging
out to take beautiful photos. Everyone is immersed in
the pleasant and relaxed atmosphere of the holiday.

New's Year eve is the most awaited moment. It marks


the beginning of the new year and “Ong Tao” (The
Kitchen God) comes back from the heavens. Some
families hold parties till the morning, others go to the
pagoda to pickle buds and pray for health, happiness,
luck and prosperity.

On the first day of the year, children are very excited


to dress up, visit relatives' houses and receive lucky
money. I often invite my old friends to my house and
share our lives with each other.

I always long for Tet because it is the time of family


reunion. In addition, I'm glad that Vietnamese
traditional customs are still preserved and practised.
