The link to the journal and the portfolio is in the Resources section of this syllabus.
If you do not have a professional portfolio, this will be a great place to start. If you have already
started your professional portfolio, then identify any additional items that are needed to complete
the latest version of your portfolio.
Regardless of whether you think you need a portfolio at this time, it is a great tool/record of what
you have achieved in your professional life and it may become an important resource in the
future. If you have already started your professional portfolio in another internship class, then
identify any additional items that are needed to complete the latest version of your portfolio. If
you believe you have completed your portfolio and have no new updates or additions, then you
must review the four (4) articles about portfolios in the Internship Course Resources under
Supplementary Material in this GAP course and identify elements from the articles that you
would add this session.

Your internship course will conclude with your professional portfolio that you are expected to
continually add to, improve, amend, and edit. Using the articles provided in the Internship Course
Resources identify areas of improvement and/or materials to add to your portfolio. If you do not
have a professional portfolio, this will be a great place to start. If you have already started your
professional portfolio, then identify any additional items that are needed to complete the latest
version of your portfolio.
● Outline and describe in the discussion those components that you will be working on in
this session to build or improve your professional portfolio. Summarize how concepts
learned this week can be applied to your current role, and post to the discussion board.
● Please be sure to respond to a peer.
Journal Entries: Be sure to make entries in your journal each week about your experiences.
While these are not directly graded, they are required.
For Weeks 3 through 8, keep notes during your internship in your professional journal which
each student is creating and reporting on in the CLA 1 in Week 8.

Week 4
A market survey is a key tool for any company considering launching a new product or service
into a new marketplace domestically or overseas. It serves to identify potential markets and
confirm those already determined. Companies can then make data driven decisions that are more
likely to lead to success. Review the following overview entitled, Why Do Market Research at
The Basics of Market Research & Your Business | The Hartford
● In your current discussion teams, post a request for a specific peer partner or respond
to a request to be someone’s partner (note-this partner will be the same discussion
partner for the weeks 5, 6, and 7 discussions as well). It is advised to post a request for a
partner in the discussion areas early in the week (Tuesday at the latest) to allow for the
needed work to be completed after the requested partner agrees. You and your partner
will work together as discussion partners for weeks 5, 6 and 7 as well.
● Discussion partners need to decide on a product/service they wish to market.
● Each discussion partner will find a market survey template online.
○ Post to your partner, the link of the market survey template you found.
○ Post to your partner at least five questions that you might use from your market
survey, along with the market survey template link.
○ Post the purpose of the questions you selected:
■ What are you hoping to learn from them?
■ Who would you be asking these questions of?
● Once each partner has completed the above post, respond to your discussion partner with
addressing the following:
○ Would the market survey template selected be a good fit for the product/service
your peer wishes to market? Explain.
○ Does the market survey provide good information about how to market the
product/service your peer wishes to market? Explain.
● Finally, with your discussion partner, determine the final five questions you would use for
your partner market survey.
● Post those 5 agreed upon questions . These will be used for your discussion post in week
5, 6, and 7, so keep these handy.
● Add your work to your portfolio.

Reminder: Be sure to make entries in your Professional Journal each week about your
experiences.
Week 5
In Week 4 you practiced, with a partner, developing a brief market survey. You and your
discussion partner finalized a product/service and five specific questions for your team’s market
survey. This week, you will now create the actual market survey questionnaire and analyze you
and your discussion partner’s choices.
● For this discussion you will continue to work with the same peer you selected for your
discussion in week 4.
● Based on the product/service you selected in week 4, develop a complete market survey
questionnaire, with the 5 questions you and your partner finalized during the week 4
discussion.
● Create a shared document for you and your partner to work from. If you cannot share a
document, you and your partner will post each section to the discussion board.
1. In your shared document, describe briefly your team's product/service and the five
questions.
2. Decide with your discussion partner, which components of the market survey
questionnaire each discussion partner will be responsible for, These are the
components:
■ a brief summary of how each question relates to the product/service
■ a brief rationale for each of the 5 questions
■ the audience/participants the survey is intended for
■ the approach -mailed/online survey, interview (e.g., face to face,
SurveyMonkey)
3. Complete your market survey with a brief justification, from each discussion
partner, for the decisions made for the components they were responsible for.
4. Post your work to the DQ.
5. Add your work to your portfolio.

Week 6
Discussion Prompt: In Weeks 4 & 5 you developed and posted a Market Survey with another
discussion partner in your discussion group. For week 6, you and your discussion partner will post
your completed market survey to your discussion group, for the other teams to complete and post.
Once you have the answers to your survey, create a results table and describe the findings. What
have you discovered? Were the answers what you expected? If not, why not? Knowing what you
know now, would you launch your product/service?
● You are your discussion partner, post your completed market survey to your
discussion group.
● All other team members from your discussion will complete the survey, scan and
post their answers.
● Once answers are all completed and posted, you and your discussion partner will
each create a simple table of results (see APA Manual 7th Ed., Section 7 for
examples) with a brief summary of the findings. Post to the discussion board.
● Under your posted table with the brief summary, each partner will address the
following:
○ Did the results surprise you? If so, why?
○ Did each partner’s table yield the same results? Why or why not?
○ Based on the findings, how should you move forward with your
product/service? Why or why not?
● Looking back, as a team what might you have done differently? Why?
● Post your work to the DQ.
● Add your work to your portfolio.
