Step 1: Empathize

Begin by discussing with students the energy challenges we face and the impact of traditional fuel
use on the environment. Help them understand the need for alternative, sustainable energy sources.
Explore their thoughts and feelings about these issues to establish a connection.

Step 2: Define

Narrow down the focus by defining the problem. In this case, the problem is the reliance on
traditional fuels for cooking and the environmental impact. Define the challenge as finding an
innovative way to harness solar energy for cooking, introducing the concept of using a Concave
Mirror to create a solar furnace.

Step 3: Ideate

Encourage creative brainstorming sessions to generate ideas for using Concave Mirrors in a solar
cooker. Students might come up with concepts like a portable solar cooker, a Concave Mirror
arrangement that concentrates sunlight, or incorporating the cooker into everyday kitchen
appliances. Allow for a diverse range of ideas.

Step 4: Prototype

Guide students in creating physical prototypes or models of their solar cooker designs. This could
involve using simple materials like cardboard, magnifying glasses, or other readily available items to
demonstrate how the Concave Mirror focuses sunlight to generate heat for cooking.

Step 5: Test

Facilitate a testing phase where students assess the effectiveness of their prototypes. This could
involve practical experiments, such as measuring the temperature increase when using the solar
cooker on a sunny day. Encourage students to gather feedback, refine their designs, and think about
potential improvements.

This Design Thinking project aims to engage students in a real-world problem-solving scenario,
applying physics concepts to create a practical solution that addresses environmental concerns and
promotes sustainable practices.
