Renaissance: Rebirth, Resurgence

Resolute: admirably purposeful,

determined, and unwavering
Be resolute in your dream, vision, & attitude
Teams learn what is important by where you
put your time and attention
Do Simple Better
Be a STREETSWEEPER…
WORKERS ARE WINNERS
RELENTLESSLY POSITIVE
PRACTICE Planning & EFFICIENCIES
- In our staff dynamic, Student-athletes don’t
have bad practices, coaches do.
Accountability and Improvement!
- I believe your efficiencies are developed in
preparation and clear planning. Know your
goal for the drill and address it.
- Start fast: Why, Tempo, Pace
- Our daily routine is: Pre-Practice Skill
development, Communicate 2 keys/Objectives,
give the player a positive, an area of
improvement, have a clear start to practice
- We don’t do football warm-ups. Dribble,
run, pass, and shoot to get loose.
- We use time and score drills in the first 2-4
drills each day (It’s objective and builds accountability)
- Have 5-8 drills that you can choose from
each day

- You must dribble, pass, pivot, and close-out

each day
o Pull Back / Cross-over (2 forward, 2
back, cross-over)
o 2 Balls, 2 Balls moving, 2 Balls
Stationary, 2 Man Passing
o Dribble / Pivot / Pass

o Catch / Pivot / Attack

o Circle Dribble
o Catch / Pivot / Drive

- In our team setting you must be minimally

functional individually on offense i.e.
dribble, pass, shoot in order for our team
offense to reach its potential.
- We want our team to grow to be positionless
- Mastering the simple is the price of
admission on our team
- What is your base and where does it take
you?
- “Confidence comes from Demonstrated
ability.” – Coach Don Meyer
- Be relentlessly positive about why
fundamentals are important – make them
believe
o Run the Wings
(2 points per lay-up, must beat 66 in 3 minutes)

- 5 spots: Inbounder, Outlet, Middle, Ball, Score

- Call role and assignment
- Mix 1 trip (down & Back – 2 lay ups) 2 trips (4 lay ups) 3 trips (6 lay ups)
- Rotate clockwise (inbounder is 12 o’clock)

o Full Court Passing

(2 points per lay up, must beat 66 in 2 minutes)
- Talking is a learned skill that takes no
talent but a lot coaching
- Move quickly from drill to drill (if it doesn’t
meet expectations in assigned time, give them a
consequence and move to the next action, FIX IT)
- Use echo call to change drills, give them a
countdown to get problem solve and FIX IT

o Feed The Post Drill: establishes sharing

the ball, feeding the post, outlet
passing, full court attacking, post
development and finishing
- During most seasons we will practice
approximately 125 times if we invested 2
minutes in that practice in feed the post
drill in 80% of those practices we
cumulatively worked over 3 full hours on
feeding the post. We see the payoff in today
in how our team shares the ball inside
willingly. Last year we posted multiple
combinations due to injury so we would
normally do 1:30 twice. Passing and passing
to the post, in particular, is a lost art.
**Do you have a Universal Rotation?**
- Be willing to stop and tie in how drills build
forward. Use word pictures
- Use your clock/watch have a practice plan
and evaluate what you are doing well and
need improvement in. Keep detailed notes in
practice and transfer those to your
computer. Reference them year to year.
- Always have in your mind your key goals to
accomplish that day: It’s not always what
you drill but what you emphasize. A great
example for us is that we have good size and
length. This season we did a poor job
coaching/emphasizing offensive rebounding
into each drill and getting OUR shots. We
must coach those points within nearly every
drill to see the transfer.

- 1 v. 0 Wing Denial - Finish

- 2 v. 0 Same Wing Ball Screen: use back
dribble, different reads, shots
- 2 v. 2 Wing Ball Screen – One Side
- 3 v. 3 Wing Ball Screen
- 4 v. 4 Wing Ball Screen – Offense to Defense, Defense off
- 6-8 minutes a day in defensive fundamental
coverages: cover 2 to 3 actions a day
starting in fall conditioning
- (demand, talk, stance, speed)
- Use this to help build your man to man base
- Limits your scout time (you are guarding
actions not plays)
- Add competition or cutthroat. Guard action
and then play it live
- Scout board based on actions
***Here are some thoughts to think about on a few of
the actions to guard:

1. Screen – Away / Down - Screen

a. 2 v. 2
b. 3 v. 3
c. 4 v. 4 live w/ post

2. Cross-Screen
a. Jam the Cutter drill
b. 2 v. 2
c. 3 v. 3 (with down-screen)

3. Flex – Cut / Flex Offense

a. Same action as Cross-Screen / Down

4. America’s Play (Out of box set)

a. Same action as Cross/Down & Flex

5. Ball-Screen (On & Off 3)

a. Switch
b. Trap
c. Down
d. Hedge
e. Jam & Under

6. Shuffle Cut

7. Hand Off (Same as Ball Screen)

- 1st foul is free
- 2nd foul go to line to shoot 1 worth 1
(a miss doesn’t constitute a stop)
- Losers Run and get to be on defense
1st in next game
KEEPING YOUR TEMPO / MANAGING YOUR ENVIRONMENT
- Talking and communicating allows your team to manage
and replicate your environment.
- Begins daily in practice and will be carried over to life
after basketball. We must build self-starters to succeed.
- We work on game day off a 1 hour clock (they are on
their own till that one hour prior)
- HS may have on 20 minute clock (5 in locker room and 15
on court or 5 inside and 10 on court)
- Eliminate Football warm-ups
- Run, Dribble, Pass, Shoot
- Talk, Count, Work at Tempo (takes cool out)
- Guys get themselves ready
- Practice your warm-up in practice to establish the feel
of the tempo which is proper (don’t expect them to go out
and be able to please you and convince you without
practice)
- Carry your own basketballs to ensure that you have the
same environment
- Establish your team’s personality with tempo

The Widow’s Offering Mark 12:41
41
Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd
putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a
poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
43
Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into
the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty,
put in everything—all she had to live on.”
