Past simple

Negative form
-We use the negative form of past simple to talk about:

- Actions that didn’t happen in the past.

-Actions that happened but were not completed in the


past. Ex:

-I went to school today. I didn’t go to school Yesterday.


Look at the underlined words in the two sentences, what is
the difference between them?
When we write the past simple verbs in the negative form,
we write didn’t + the verb in its present form.

Ate didn’t eat

Played didn’t play

Lived didn’t live

But this is the negative form of verb to be and verb to


have in the past:
Was Wasn’t Were Weren’t Had didn’t have

I wasn’t at home yesterday, I was at the club.
They were not sleeping .They were playing.
We had a car. We didn’t have a bike.
