Grammar Revision

1. Main and Subordinate Clauses

Definitions:
Main Clause: A clause that can stand alone as a sentence, expressing a complete thought.
Subordinate Clause: A clause that cannot stand alone as a sentence and depends on the
main clause.

Exercise: Identify the Main and Subordinate Clauses

For each sentence below, underline the main clause and circle the subordinate clause.
i. Although it was raining, we went for a walk.
ii. She smiled because she was happy.
iii. If you finish your homework, you can watch TV.
iv. When the sun sets, the sky turns orange and pink.
v. Even though she was tired, Maria finished her assignment.
vi. Because the movie was long, we decided to watch it another
day.
vii. Unless it stops snowing, the game will be postponed.

3. Types of Sentences
Declarative: Makes a statement. (e.g., The sky is blue.)
Interrogative: Asks a question. (e.g., Is the sky blue?)
Imperative: Gives a command. (e.g., Look at the sky.)
Exclamatory: Shows strong emotion. (e.g., What a beautiful sky!)

4. Figures of Speech

Definitions:

Simile: A comparison between two things using "like" or "as." (e.g., Her smile was like
sunshine.)
