What Do you understand from
this?
As the potential di erence
across a circuit increases
current also increases and Vice
Versa
The current flow in a circuit is
directly proportional to the
applied potential di erence
The current flow in a circuit is
directly proportional to the
applied potential di erence

This is called Ohm’s Law

Mathematically V ∝ I

How do we turn the proportionality to an
equation?

Add a constant
V= I R
Where R is the resistance
● As R increases the current
decreases since they are
inversely proportional.
● As R increases the current
decreases since they are
inversely proportional.

● Resistance [R] is the opposition

to the flow of current

Limitations of Ohm’s Law
The temperature and physical state of
the material has to remain constant.
What happens when temperature
changes in a conductor ?
What happens when temperature
changes in a conductor ?

When temperature is increased

electron moves rapidly
Bichare Electrons!
This cause the flow of current to
increase rapidly
This cause the flow of current to
increase rapidly

Thus Current does not depend on

potential difference alone but also on
temperature.
Ohm’s law is not a universal law
