Unilever Shampoo Business Report

Introduction

The given data set is related to Unilever shampoo products called Clear, Dove, Head & Shoulder,
Lifebuoy, Lux and Sunsilk. The data are imaginary showing the sale and profitability of the
above mentioned products in different division in Bangladesh for different months. The
performance is analyzed based on product, division and month.

Product-wise Performance analysis:

If we look at product-wise performance, we can see a visible dominance of Clear Shampoo in all
the divisions. Clear is the best profit earning product of Unilever considering the overall market
of Bangladesh registering 29% of the total profit of the shampoo segment of the company. Dove
and Lifebuoy secured the second position with 16% contribution from each product. The other
shampoo products contributed 13% each.
Division-wise Performance analysis:
Though there is a slight difference in divisional revenue and profit for different shampoo
products, the overall divisional profit for each division is the same. Thus, all the divisions are
contributing equally to the growth of the company.

The monthly performance graph shows a stable earning till September. A sudden decline is
observed in October followed by a huge rise in November. Then, it has fallen in December
again. Hence, the last quarter of the year demands for a special investigation to understand such
an abnormal behaviour. If we investigate further with slicer for monthly performance, we
observe some interesting findings as discussed below:
It is interesting to observe that the company could manage to do business only in two divisions
called Barisal and Khulna in January and February, whereas in the month of March, it performed
well in Barisal, Khulna and Rajshahi. The company did business in Barisal, Dhaka and Rajshahi
in the month of April.

Similarly, Barisal and Dhaka showed business in May while Barisal, Dhaka and Rajshahi did
business in the month of June.

Month July and August show a good business in Dhaka and Rajshahi wherease Chittagong,
Dhaka and Rajshahi did business in the month of August. Likewise, the month september show
the business in Chittagong and Rajshahi. Most interestingly, the cimpany could manage to do
business in October in Chittagong only that clealy indicats the reason for a declining trend during
this period.
Again, the company register a good business in Chittagong, Dhaka and Khulna in the month of
Noveber that gave it a shar uprise though it fell down in December again as the division
Chittagong has good business only though Dhak and Khulna articipited with only a product’s
business each.

Conclusion

Though the company did a moderate business in the report period, there is a big space for
improvement. All the divisions are not performing throughout the year. A market research is to
be undertaken to reveal the reason for which each division is not registering any business in
some specific month. Such a research may help the company to take measures so that that the
sales of different shampoo products will be ensured in all the divisions in all the months.
