II. Literature Review:

1. Definition and History of Social Networking Website:

Networking websites or social media platforms; are the basic online services that
help people create profiles, contact together with many other users, and share post
content such as texts, images, articles, and multimedia, … Since the early days of
the wi-fi internet technology, the social networking service was released with the
platforms is SixDegrees.com in 1997 and was considered one of the first social
networking sites at that time. Nevertheless, it was not until many other social
networking sites such as Facebook, Yahoo, and Viber appeared that social
networking services became more popular in our social life.
In a comparative analysis of various Social Networking Sites in marketing, we know
the evolution of social media over the past decade, the transformative impact of
mobile technology, and the emergence of various platforms. Their dominance of
platforms created key trends such as the rise of video content, the importance of
influencers, and the challenges, and opportunities presented by each platform for
businesses. It provides in-depth insights into key social media channels, highlights
their respective strengths and functionalities for marketing purposes as well as the
significance of both strategy and execution in achieving marketing objectives in the
dynamic landscape of social media (Ashima Malik, S. Srinivasam – 2020).
• The evolution of social media:
- Pre-2000: ‘Six Degrees of Separation’ was the first social media
network, which meant you could connect to everybody in the world
through it. But it did not sustain. Weblogs also started coming into the
picture in 2000. People were able to share their views through long
essays in the form of blogs.
- 2000 – 2003: Chat rooms; and ICQs started becoming very popular
during this time.
- 2003 – 2005: Myspace; and Orkut came into the picture. Myspace was
perhaps the first social media website that leveraged, influences and
viralating to grow into the space. LinkedIn, Flicker, and YouTube came
into the picture in 2005 only.
- 2005 – 2006: Facebook and Twitter started. Facebook was initially
started to make a connection between students of Havard University
and then gradually moved on from one university to another and simply
grew exponentially thereafter.
- 2010+: Instagram, Tumbler, Snapchat, WhatsApp.

The current landscape: At present, India boasts a staggering 4 billion active users
worldwide, creating a virtual realm akin to a parallel universe. Among this vast
populace, a whopping 3.1 billion individuals actively engage with social media,
surpassing the reach of traditional telephone and cable networks. This surge
signifies a significant shift from the landscape observed between 2004 and 2010.
Notably, the proliferation of mobile technology stands out as the primary catalyst,
with 5.1 billion users accessing digital platforms through mobile devices. In our
discussion, we will explore the imperative of adopting a mobile-first approach,
emphasizing its necessity in designing content, websites, apps, and digital presence.
It is essential to acknowledge that consumers increasingly prioritize mobile access
over desktop, underscoring the importance of aligning strategies accordingly. Now,
let's delve into the leading social media platforms.
Figure 1: Showing the current landscape

In addition, we can use social networking media for scientific advocacy and personal
branding. With the widespread use of platforms, healthcare professionals have
found avenues for advocacy, education, networking, and personal branding raising
awareness about healthcare issues, disseminating educational content, and
advocating for patients and underrepresented groups. Moreover, personal
branding on social media is discussed as a means to establish one's unique identity,
showcase expertise, and engage with a broader audience as well as authenticity,
clarity, consistency, connection, and community in building and maintaining a
personal brand (Katarzyna M Pawlak, Rashid N Lui – 2023)

2. Theoretical Frameworks related to Social Networking:

For this field, social networking websites, several theoretical frameworks have been
widely proposed to make it easier to understand their dynamics. The social
penetration theory, which belongs to a type of framework admits that the
relationships were developed via how people express themselves and the contacts
progressing from the levels of elementaryness to intimateness.

3. Impact of the Social Networking via previous research findings:

Many researchers have discovered the impact of social networking services on
various aspects of our lives such as the patterns of communication, the friendships
of individuals in social, and psychological well-being, and the problem of privacy of
each person. For example, studies have found that social networking
websites/services make the convenient for humans to communicate, and share
information, leading to increased social capital and increasing the contacts and
relationships of each interpersonal. In the development, experimental study on a
Social Networking Website with a matchmaking system for knowledge exchange,
NULE, a system that incorporates a matchmaking system aimed at facilitating
knowledge exchange among users, is considered an effective platform for
knowledge exchange, surpassing traditional social media in facilitating
communication and learning (Krishna Susanto Lioe, Andree E. Widjaja – 2022). The
findings also underscore the potential of matchmaking systems in enhancing social
networking experiences, offering insights for future research in this domain. For
NULE, There are two roles in the proposed system: User and System
Administrator. The figure below shows the use case diagram for the NULE system:
Fig. 2. NULE use case diagram

Besides that, the researchers also emphasize the negative problems that can be
caused like the addiction of teenagers, youngsters and the breaches of the
individual’s privacy, and the spread of misinformation that cannot be verified or
tabloid content. Moreover, with the rapid expansion of social networking sites, the
issue of fraudulent accounts has become increasingly prevalent, leading to
potential security risks and misinformation and the traditional methods for
detecting fake accounts have limitations, prompting the need for more advanced
techniques. Through detecting fake profiles via machine learning, we know that
machine learning techniques, particularly XG-Boost, can significantly enhance the
identification of fraudulent accounts on social networking websites, thereby
improving security and mitigating the spread of misinformation (M. Sirish Kumar,
Jasmine Sabeena – 2023).

4. Critical analysis of existing document:

Although there are many studies on social networking websites, several blanks,
gaps, and conflicts exist in the document. The first is much of the existing studies
concentrate too much on the effect on individual users that social media sites bring
and ignore the broader social impacts. Which, typical impact is on modern youth,
such as how SNS has become an integral part of daily life for young people, affecting
various aspects such as personal relationships, education, entertainment, and
mental health. The majority of youth spend several hours daily on SNS for leisure,
socializing, learning, and professional purposes, so it has become deeply ingrained
in the daily routine of youth, with many checking their accounts immediately upon
waking up. A significant portion of youth feel they cannot live without social media
and find comfort in it during times of sadness (Priyanka Choudhary, Kamaladevi
Baskaran – 2022).
Fig. 3. Various SNS and the accessing daily of the youth

While it offers benefits such as access to information, learning opportunities, and

enhanced communication, it also poses risks to mental and physical health,
including addiction, decreased real-world social interactions, and privacy concerns.
The discovery of SNS also suggests avenues for future research, including exploring
the impact of specific social media platforms and expanding the study to different
age groups and regions through the usage among youth, emphasizing the need for
education, awareness, parental guidance, and maintaining a healthy balance
between online and offline activities.
In addition, it is necessary for longer-term research to understand how social
networking use develops over time. Moreover, the most of studies of the past and
now have been conducted in Western and limiting generalizability to other cultures
in the world. When addressing these blanks, we can advance the understanding of
the role and impacts of social networking sites in modern society.

III. Main Discussion:

1. Methodology:
This study uses the design of research with the purpose is investigating the
impact of social networking sites on various aspects of individuals and society.
The mixed methods approach was applied to comprehensively collect and
synthesize data, integrating with the quantity surveys and qualitative interviews.
A group of various individuals participated in the sample selection, including
people that come from many different demographic backgrounds, and age
groups, and making sure that the representation across various components of
society. These methods of data collection included online surveys distributed via
basic social networking services and detailed interviews were enforcement with
the participants of selected people.
In an exploration of Big Data Analytics in Social Networking Sites, we know the
characteristics of big data, including volume, veracity, variety, velocity, and value,
and highlight the importance of big data analytics in various sectors such as
social media, healthcare, and finance (Open AI, ChatGPT, 2023). Other tools and
frameworks are also used for analyzing large volumes of diverse data; they
categorize data based on its nature, mode of analytical application, and data
type. The results suggest that Hadoop and MapReduce are most suitable for
semi-structured data in batch mode, while Spark and MongoDB are better suited
for unstructured data in online mode (Priyanka, Manjit Singh – 2023). Overall,
their research provides insights into the tools and techniques available for
analyzing big data from social media platforms and their applications in various
sectors.
We know that big data transforms multiple dimensions, encompassing Volume,
Veracity, Variety, Velocity, and other factors.

2. Analysis of findings:
When analyzing findings, we had several significant knowledge of the impact of
social networking websites. The quantitative data showed a high level of usage
across all groups of ages, with the majority concentrated on platforms like
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. In addition, the data also emphasized
the correlations between social networking usage and factors like mental health,
personal self-esteem, relationships between individuals together, and
productivity of work and economy.
Although social networking sites have become integral parts of modern life,
connecting people across the globe and facilitating various forms of
communication and interaction, they also come with their own set of
advantages and disadvantages:

• Pros:

- Connectivity
- Information sharing
- Community Building
- Business Opportunities
- Educational Resources
- Awareness and Activism

• Cons:
- Privacy Concerns
- Cyberbullying
- Addiction
- Misinformation
- Impact on Mental Health
- Filter Bubbles
While social networking sites offer numerous benefits in terms of connectivity,
information sharing, and community building, they also pose significant
challenges related to privacy, cyberbullying, addiction, misinformation, and
mental health. Users should be aware of these pros and cons and use social
media responsibly to maximize its positive impacts while mitigating its negative
consequences (Open AI, ChatGPT, 2024).
Besides that, this qualitative knowledges also help us understand deeper about
people’s experiences and awareness regarding social networking media
websites. Titles emerged related to the role of social networks in shaping
identity, boosting interactions, and connections, and influencing behavior.
Furthermore, these interviews clarified both the advantages and drawbacks
consequences related to the excessive usage of social networks, including
loneliness feelings, the comparison of social and the overload of information.

3. Discussion of implications:
These findings of this discovery have several implications for people, society, and
the study for the future. Firstly, the results emphasize the necessity of a deep
understanding of the social networking services’ role in modern life. Although
these platforms provide opportunities for interactions and self-expression, they
also have challenges associated with privacy, mental health, and the knowledge
of digital device systems.
SEM, a neural network model for information trust in social networking sites,
shows the factors influencing users' trust in shared travel information on social
media or tourism sites, emphasizing the significance of perceived value,
perceived enjoyment, privacy concerns, and perceived risk. The study finds that
perceived enjoyment and perceived value are crucial in shaping trust via using
both Structural Equation Modeling and a neural network model to analyze data
with privacy concerns negatively affect trust, while perceived risk has a
significant negative impact (Fotis Kitsios, Eleftheria Mitsopoulou – 2022). It
offers insights into user behavior and managerial implications, suggesting
strategies for enhancing the trustworthiness of social media and tourism
platforms.
In association with existing documents, the studies contribute to ongoing
debates surrounding the impact of social networks on well-being and the
dynamics of society. These findings also make the existing body of research
richer and provide a comprehensive overview of the subject via synthesizing the
quantitative and qualitative data.
From a practical standpoint, the deep understanding and knowledge gained
from this study can give the interventions with the purpose is promoting usage
patterns that are healthier and reducing potential negative consequences of this
service. These educational initiatives concentrated on the knowledge of digital
and media can empower people to navigate social networking services more
effectively and critically evaluate the information they encounter online.

4. Role of Social Networks to Improve Satisfaction and Performance

of University Students:
For this part, we are going to explore the impact of social networks, social
influence, and perceived teacher support on academic performance through
satisfaction among university students in the UAE. Through a quantitative, cross-
sectional study involving 217 students, the research finds that social networks,
social influence, and perceived teacher support positively affect student online
satisfaction, which in turn significantly influences academic performance. The
study's findings underscore the importance of these factors in enhancing
student satisfaction and performance in the digital learning environment. The
research highlights the role of teachers as crucial in fostering student satisfaction
and the significance of social networks in facilitating student engagement and
support. The study's limitations include a single mediator in the proposed
framework and a focus on university students, suggesting avenues for future
research to explore. Overall, the findings offer valuable insights for policymakers
and educators aiming to improve student satisfaction and performance in online
education, particularly in the post-COVID-19 era (Mohammed T. Nuseir, Ahmad
Ibrahim Aljumah – 2023).
5. Social networking sites in the field of health and epidemics:
In a scale development and validation for the usage of social networking sites
during COVID-19 in India, data of scale to measure this usage was collected from
204 respondents through a Google Form link distributed on various social media
platforms. The findings revealed a six-factor structure, including
informativeness, education, entertainment, shopping, socialization, and social
cause while the scale demonstrated high reliability and validity, providing a
valuable tool for assessing social media usage during crises (Nawab Ali Khan,
Mohd Azhar, Mohd Nayyer Rahman – 2022). The study contributes to
understanding social media behavior during emergencies and offers insights for
researchers, marketers, and web developers. However, limitations include the
sample size and the need for validation in different settings and nations.
For increasing efficacy and engagement in a distance learning course about oral
lesions, we can see the efficacy of utilizing a private Facebook group (FG) as a
support mechanism for distance learning courses, focusing on an e-learning
course on oral mucosal lesion diagnosis. Participants included dental students
and dentists, with the FG serving as a platform for motivational messages,
reminders, and interactive discussions related to the course content. Results
indicate that dentists engaged in the FG had a lower discontinuation rate, while
dental students' participation correlated with better performance in diagnostic
accuracy (Joao Paulo Prohny, Michelle Roxo-Goncalves DDS – 2023). The study
highlights the potential of social networking websites to increase efficacy and
engagement in distance learning settings, offering insights for improving learner
retention and course outcomes.
