Audio 1 – Zadanie 1 – Transkrypcja:
Games similar to badminton, with all kinds of rules, have been popular for centuries in different parts of the
world, but badminton as we know it first appeared in the nineteenth century. British soldiers staying in
India introduced a net and a court to an old form of the game to make it more exciting and competitive for
the players. This new game was known as poona after the name of the Indian city where the soldiers were
staying. When poona was brought to England, it was played at a private residence called Badminton House.
It soon became popular and changed its name to badminton.
Of course, you don’t have to play badminton on a professional court with a net. It’s perfect for playing
outdoors – unless it’s too windy. All you need is two rackets and a shuttlecock, the small object that players
hit with their rackets. A shuttlecock is very light. It weighs around 5 grams, which is about 11 times less
than a tennis ball. Plastic shuttlecocks are quite popular, but a traditional shuttlecock is made of a piece of
cork covered with leather and 16 feathers.
A shuttlecock can fly really fast, sometimes more than 400 kph. This may be the reason why badminton is
such a fast sport and some matches don’t last very long. In the shortest official match ever, a Korean player
beat a British one in just 6 minutes. Even the longest match, which lasted more than two hours, can’t
compare to the longest tennis matches which sometimes take over six hours.

Zadanie 7 – GRUPY A i B
Przykładowa odpowiedź:
Hi Kev,
In your last email you asked me about a sports event I remembered well.
Well, when I was 11, I took up football. Back then I was the shortest in my team. That’s probably why I was
really competitive, but my coach never took me to play until one day in September. I was watching the
match when suddenly our striker got an injury and had to leave the pitch. Then the coach told me to
replace that player. You can imagine everyone’s surprise when I scored a goal 3 minutes later!
It was one of the most memorable days of my life! I still remember how proud I was.
How about your story?
Write back,
XYZ
