RBI GRADE B Exam

 Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recruits at Grade B (Manager) level every year.
 RBI is the central bank of the country. As per its preamble, RBI is tasked “to regulate the
issue of Bank notes and keeping of reserves with a view to securing monetary stability in
India and generally to operate the currency and credit system of the country to its
advantage; to have a modern monetary policy framework to meet the challenge of an
increasingly complex economy, to maintain price stability while keeping in mind the
objective of growth.”
 More generally, RBI is the monetary head of the country and the regulator of the
financial system including banking, non-banking and the payment system. As the central
bank of the country, the RBI is the one of the architects of the nation's economy and its
decisions touch everyday lives of all Indians. From ensuring stability of interest rates and
exchange rates to providing adequate liquidity for productive sectors and ensuring
adequate supply of currency, the RBI also monitors flow of credit to desired sectors and
ensures orderly development of financial markets and institutions.

Job Profile
 As RBI Grade B officers under General stream, you would be posted across various
departments and functions of RBI. Some of the roles include, but not limited to, the
following:

o Foreign exchange
o External investments and operations
o Internal debt management
o Payment and settlement
o Currency management

The number of vacancies for the RBI Grade B exam can vary significantly from year to year,
depending on the Reserve Bank of India's staffing requirements and strategic goals. Here’s a

RBI GRADE B - EXAM PATTERN, SYLLABUS AND CUT-OFF

RBI Grade B exam is held in 3 phases:


 Phase I - Preliminary Examination: This is an online examination, objective in nature,
consisting of a single paper with four sections: General Awareness, English Language,
Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning. This is a qualifying phase.
 Phase II - Main Examination: This is an online examination, including both objective and
descriptive papers. This includes three papers given below. Marks of this Phase are
added for final selection.
 Paper 1: Economic and Social Issues
 Paper 2: English Writing Skills
 Paper 3: Finance and Management
 Phase III – Interview: Candidates who clear the Phase II examination are called for a
final interview. Interview carries 75 marks. Marks of this Phase are added for final
selection.

 Candidates need to qualify sectional as well as overall cut off in every phase of RBI Grade B
exam.
 RBI Grade B Phase-I is just qualifying in nature.
 There is a negative marking of 1/4th mark for every attempted wrong answer.
 General category candidates can attempt the exam 6 times, while SC/ST/OBC/PWD
categories can attempt for innumerable times.
 Candidates with a minimum age of 21 years can apply RBI Grade B exam.

 The candidates who will qualify the Prelims will be eligible to appear for the mains exam
or Phase II.
 There are three separate papers in the main exam.
 Each paper will be of 100 marks.
 The English paper is a descriptive test consisting of 3 Questions
 For both Paper I (ESI) and Paper III (FM), there will be:
o 30 questions and 50 marks for Objective question (some questions carrying 2
marks each and some carrying 1 mark each).
o In case of Descriptive questions, 6 questions will be asked, of which candidates will
be required to attempt 4 questions (2 of 15 marks each (with difficulty level) and 2 of
10 marks each).
o In case, candidate answers more than 4 questions in descriptive, first 4 shall be
evaluated.

RBI Grade B Officer Interview

 Candidates will be shortlisted for the interview, based on aggregate marks obtained in
Phase II (Paper-I + Paper-II + Paper-III).
 The interview Process will carry 75 marks.
 Psychometric Test will be conducted by the Bank before appearing for the Interview. No
marks will be allotted for the same and this will not form part of the final selection criteria.
 Candidate may opt for interview either in Hindi or English.

Final Selection

Final Selection will be through merit list which will be prepared by adding marks secured by
candidates in Phase II examination and interview
