Introduction:
This group assignment aims to enhance students' practical skills in Windows Server 2008 R2
administration. Students will collaboratively perform tasks related to creating a shared folder,
setting up a backup schedule, and monitoring server performance.
I. Create a Shared Folder:
Folder Creation:
Each team member will create a shared folder named "Backup" in their (C:) drive.
Screenshots: Include screenshots of the folder creation process.
-Opening Windows Server 2008 R2 in virtual machine

-Clicking start then opening Control Panel.


-Clicking sub-heading add or remove account under User Accounts

-Clicking Create a new account


-Entering the name of the Account “Kristian”, then clicking Create Account

-Clicking Create a New Account


-Entering Account Name “Amerie”, then clicking Create Account

-Repeating the same process and Creating an Account Named “Jada”

-Repeating the same process, Creating an Account Named “Brian”


-Repeating the same process, Creating an Account Named “Jafari”

-Display of all five Accounts Created for each Group Member


-Clicking Start and logging out of Admin Account

-Clicking the Ease of Access icon that’s located at the bottom left side of the screen
-Now selecting, “Type without keyboard (On-Screen Keyboard)” checkbox, then click apply.

-Selecting Account Named “Amerie”


-Open file explorer application

-Opening Computer tab


-Now Clicking Local Disk (C:)

-Creating New Folder Named “Backup-Amerie”


-Clicking Start and opening Notepad application

-Saving the Notepad text document


-Navigating to the “Backup-Amerie” Folder and renaming text document to “Amerie”

Permissions:
Set appropriate permissions on the shared folder, allowing team members to read and write.

-Right-Clicking the Folder created and clicking Properties

-Clicking the Sharing tab

-Click Advanced Sharing


-Entering password on Admin Account Named “xboxuser” to gain access to Administrative
permissions then clicking yes

-Clicking the “Share this folder” checkbox


-Clicking permissions
- Sharing reading and writing permissions to everyone

-Clicking apply
-Clicking apply then exiting

-Clicking start and logging out of the Account Named “Amerie”


-Click Ease of access icon

-Selecting the checkbox shown below then apply


-Clicking Ctrl + Alt + Del then enter

-Selecting the Account Named “Kristian”


-Creating a Folder in the Local Disk (C:) Named “Backup-Kristian”

- Creating a Wordpad text document within the Backup-Kristian Folder named “Kristian”
- Right-clicking the “Backup-Kristian” Folder and clicking Properties

- Clicking Sharing heading


- Clicking Advanced Sharing

- Entering Administrative Password to gain permission


- Selecting the Share this Folder checkbox

- Selecting Permissions
- Giving read and writing permissions to Everyone

- Click Apply
- Clicking Apply

- Logging off of the Account named Kristian


- Repeating the previous steps to change users and selecting the Account named “Brian”

- Creating a Folder in the Local Disk (C:) named Backup-Brian


- Creating a Wordpad text document in the Backup-Brian Folder named “Brian”

-Right-clicking the Folder and selecting Properties


- Repeating the previous steps to granting read and write permissions on the Folder to
everyone

- Logging off of the Account named Brian


- Repeating the previous steps to change users and selecting the Account named “Jada”

II. Configure a Full Backup Schedule:
Backup Schedule:
Teams will collectively set up a full backup schedule in Windows Server 2008 R2.
Screenshots: Include screenshots of the backup schedule configuration.

- Entering the Admin Account named “xboxuser” and Clicking Administrative Tools

- Clicking Server Manager


- Clicking Features

- Clicking Add Features


- Navigate to Windows Server Backup Features

-Select the Windows Server Backup and Command-line Tools, then clicking Next
- Clicking Install

- After the Features were successfully Installed, select Close


- Clicking start, Select Administrative Tools and then Windows Server Backup

- Select Backup Schedule on the right side of the Screen


- Select Next

- Select the Custom option and click Next


- Click Add Items

- Click the “+” On Local Disk


- Selecting the Folder Backup-Kristian Folder and then Ok

- Click Next
Timing:
Schedule the backup to run daily at 7 pm.

-Changing the Time of Day to Backup to 7:00pm


Backup Destination:
Link the backup schedule to the shared folder created in Section I.
Screenshots: Provide screenshots of the backup destination settings.

- Select the Backup to a Shared Folder option and select Next

- Click Ok
- Entering the Location of the Remote Shared Folder and then Next

- Entering the Administrative Credentials and then click Ok


- Click Finish

- Click Close
- The Backup was Created
III. Monitor Physical Memory Usage:
Launching the Performance Monitoring Tool:
-Press the windows button and R and you should see a small dialogue box appear as shown in
the image below.
- In the little box that saids open, type perfmon and then press ok to launch the Performance
Monitor.
- As you can see Performance Monitor was opened.
Navigate to the Monitoring Section:
In the left-hand pane of the Performance Monitor window, expand monitoring tools by
clicking the arrow next to it. After, select performance monitor.
Adding Physical Memory Counters:
- In the main Performance Monitor window, click the green plus (+) icon in the toolbar to add
counters.
- In the Add Counters window, you’ll need to select the counters relevant to physical memory
usage, such as: Available Mbytes, Pages Input/sec, Pages/sec and Cache Faults/sec. Click add
to include them.
- After, click ok to confirm and return to the main Performance Monitor screen. After adding
the counters, you’ll see them displayed in the lower pane of the Performance Monitor
Configuring the Counters:
- You can adjust their display properties (like color, scale, or line style) by right-clicking on
the graph and selecting properties. In the image below, the colour before was red and now we
changed it to pink.
- After pressing ok, this is how your screen should look.
