Experiment no:03

3.1 Name:
Observation of Different types of Faults of Television (TV) Set by Using Fault Simulator

3.2 Objectives:
i. To understand fault simulation.
ii. To observe different types of faults of TV set.

3.3 Theory:
Fault simulation is a evaluation of behavior of a instruments in the presence of manufacturing
defects. The tool which accomplishes the fault simulation is called fault simulator. By using fault
simulator, different types of faults of a TV set can be observed.

3.4 Experimental Set-up:

Fig 3.1:TV set Experimental set-up for finding faults

3.5 Observation Table:
There are about 20 types of faults appears in a TV set:
Num of Faults Results of Faults
1 Any action from remote controller is
ineffective
2 Continuously switching from one program to
the following and so on
3 TVC once tuned on at the power switch does
not tune on any station
4 Audio signal cannot be heard
5 No findings of faults
6 Blue component of OSD messages is missing
7 Green component of OSD message is missing
8 Picture color severely altered
9 No findings of faults
10 OSD messages is missing
11 New channel cannot be selected
12 Same as fault no. 10
13 No stations are received
14 Sound and picture quality drops
15 No stations are received
16 No findings of faults
17 No findings of faults
18 Screen remains dark due to lack of information
19 Image produced by CRT to become very light
and missing contrast
20 The line feeding the loudspeaker cuts

3.6 Discussion and Conclusion: In this experiment, different types of faults of a TV set
was analyzed by pressing the keypad of the fault simulator one by one. All the findings are
recorded at the observation table. But there were no findings of fault at 5,9,16,17 no button of
fault simulator due to internal problems of the device.
So, considering the above circumstances, it can said that the objectives of this experiment had
been accomplished successfully.
