Solar Energy
Solar energy is the radiation from the Sun capable
of producing heat, causing chemical reactions, or
generating electricity.
Some Uses Of Solar Energy:
● As heat for making hot water,
heating buildings and cooking
● To generate electricity with solar
cells or heat engines
● To take the salt away from sea
water.
● To use sun rays for drying clothes
and towels.
● It is used by plants for the process
of photosynthesis.
● To use in cooking (Solar cookers).
The Health and
Environmental
benifits of Solar
Energy
The Environmental benefit of solar energy
Solar energy creates clean, renewable
power from the sun and benefits the
environment. Alternatives to fossil fuels
reduce carbon footprint at home and
abroad, reducing greenhouse gases
around the globe. Solar is known to
have a favorable impact on the
environment.
Solar energy decreases greenhouse gas emissions
Generating electricity with solar power instead of
fossil fuels can dramatically reduce greenhouse gas
emissions, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2).
Greenhouse gases, which are produced when fossil
fuels are burned, lead to rising global temperatures
and climate changeBy going solar, you can reduce
demand for fossil fuels, limit greenhouse gas
emissions, and shrink your carbon footprint.
Solar energy reduces respiratory and cardio health issues
One of the biggest benefits of solar energy is that it results in very few
air pollutants. An analysis by the National Renewable Energy
Laboratory (NREL) found that widespread solar adoption would
significantly reduce nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxide, and particulate
matter emissions, all of which can cause health problems. One home
installing a solar energy system can have a measurable effect on the
environment.
Impact of solar
energy on economy
Solar Energy lowers our utility bill
One of the main benefits you and your family can experience with solar
energy is the lower utility bills. The solar energy created by your solar
panels can offset your electricity usage at home and reduce how
much you end up paying for utilities over time. Some power
companies also have the option for you to sell excess solar energy to
the company (net metering), and provide greener energy for others in
your community as well. This can also help to lower our monthly
energy bills.
Solar power creates job
The solar workforce is a very clear way solar energy can benefit
your local economy. The solar workforce provides jobs and
supports families in your community, something that will benefit
everyone in your local economy. Solar jobs are increasing every
year as more and more people install solar panels. In 2018, the
solar industry hired over 242,000 people. These jobs can’t be
outsourced, so they will continue to grow each year.
Solar Energy v/s
Conventional
Energy
Limits and concerns of conventional energy
Turbines powered through the burning of coal and other
fuels cause pollution and climate change. They are also are
finite resources meaning once burned they cannot be
replaced. The water used in hydroelectric plants is
renewable because of natural rainfall; however, these
plants can only be located where there is enough water to
power the turbines. This is also true for wind-powered
turbines which need to be located in areas with
appropriate weather conditions
The solar alternative
Solar power plants produce electricity by concentrating solar
energy and using it to heat fluids which produce clean,
non-polluting steam to power generators. As in coal plants,
turbines in these generators produce electricity. Solar energy
accounts for less than one percent of the electricity generated.
This is due to locations where solar plants can't be placed
because of inconsistent sunlight in those regions or the large
surface area needed capture the sun's energy.
H ow Solar Energy can make our future better
Although the overall amount of solar powered electricity is
relatively small for the moment, its future is rather bright. In
sun-rich countries and regions, ranging from Italy to Spain to
Australia, electricity from solar panels is cheaper than
commercially generated electricity. In the United States, however,
solar is more expensive than other forms of renewable energy as
well as non-renewable forms. Advancements in solar panel
efficiency are expected to make solar energy more accessible for
use in homes and office buildings.
