Carving and Marking Requirements
The marking
is by cutting the metal plate for the letters or perforated centre or embossed letters.
2. Ship Name, Port of Registry and IMO number permanently and conspicuously marked on
stern. The marking is by cutting metal plate for the letters or perforated centre or embossed
letters.
3. Official Number, Net Tonnage and IMO number permanently and conspicuously marked.
(i) On the surface of the main beam / in the pump room entrance / aft of engine room's
bulkhead;
(ii) The marking is by cutting metal plate for the letters or perforated centre or embossed
letters;
(iii) No other marking other than those provided as follows :
O.N : XXXXXX
NET : XX
IMO : XXXXXXX
4. All marking of Ship Name and Port of Registry are to be printed with the approved name
and Port of Registry on all the safety equipment such as raft, life jacket, buoys, lifeboats,
safety plans etc.
6. For tankers defined as cargo compartment under the International Convention of Tonnage
1969, every marking in the letters CC, marked by cutting the metal plate for the letters/
welded / perforated centre and painted white / yellow with dark background / black on
white background.
7. Spaces other than the cargo spaces are not required to be marked.
8. IMO number must be permanently and conspicuously carveed for all self-propelled cargo
ships of 300 gross tonne and above and all passenger ships of 100 gross tonne, which are
operating in international routes.
(i) In a visible place on the stern / side of the hull, amidships port and starboard, above the
deepest assigned load line / side of the superstructure, port and starboard / on the front of the
superstructure / in the case of passenger ships, on a horizontal surface visible from the air;
(ii) In an easily accessible place on one of the end transverse bulkheads of the machinery
spaces / on one of the hatchways / in case of tankers, in the pump room / in the case of ships
with ro-ro spaces, on one of the end transverse bulkheads of the ro-ro spaces;
(iii) IMO Number must be marked and preceded by the abbreviation "IMO".
9. All marking shall be in Roman capital letters / Arabic alphabets of not less than 200 mm in
height.
10. Number of accommodation for crew is certified for its purpose. Every room (minimum)
must be equipped with a bed, locker, clothes hook, desk and chair for writing. Reference can
be made to the Layout Plan / Fire Control Plan approved by Marine Department/Ship
Classification Body.
11. Type and number of engine/machinery including serial number to be certified by Ship
Surveyor as declared by the ship owner in Survey Form 118.
