1-INTRODUCION:
MEET THOMAS
A man caught between two
worls
Thomas, an ordinary man lived through
extraordinary times in the early 19th century,
England.Thomas was once a farmer, like his
father before him. But the world was
changing ,and the rise of industry has drawn
him into the crowded world of factory work.
2-THOMAS THE FARMER
2-1 Morning in the countryside
The sun rises over the hills. Thomas wakes to
the sounds of birds and the rustling leaves. The
air is crisp, filled with the earthy scent of damp
soil. It’s another day of hard but familiar work in
the fields. The morning tasks included feeding
animals, milking cows, and tending to the
chickens. His life was intimately tied to the
cycles of nature, and every day brought a
predictable routine.
2-2 A life in rythm with nature
In those days, the life of a farmer like Thomas was
shaped by nature’s cycles and the hard work required to
cultivate the land. The conditions that governed the lives
of farmers are summarized in:

🌾 Seasonal Work
🌾Subsistence Living
🌾Community Reliance
2-3 The challenges as a farmer
Farming wasn’t easy, and Thomas faced a lot of
challenges that made life on the farm so difficult
for him :
📍 Unpredictable Weather

📍Manual Labor and Physical Demands

📍Economic Difficulties
3-RISE OF THE FACTORY
In the late 18th century, a wave of technological advancements began
transforming England. The invention of machines like the steam engine,
along with the growth of factories, marked the start of the Industrial
Revolution.Faced with this significant shift , Thomas made the difficult
decision to leave the farm he loves behind for a new world that guarantees
survival and stability .
4-THOMAS THE FACTORY WORKER

4-1 Morning in the city

The whistle pierces the early morning air before
dawn. Thomas shuffles out of bed, exhausted, but
the factory doesn’t wait. The streets are filled with
the sounds of carts and clanging iron. He joins a
stream of workers, marching toward the towering
factory where he’ll spend the day.
4-2 A life in rythm with machines
The machines are relentless, and so is the
work. The shift from the fields to the factory
floor brought a whole new set of challenges
and conditions that controlled his daily life:
📍 Long Working Hours

📍Harsh Working Environment

📍Low Wages
4-3 The challenges as a factory
worker

Every day feels the same for

Thomas. There’s no connection to
the changing seasons, no sense
of growth in his work. The
repetitive tasks wear down his
body in a different way—his mind
numbs, his muscles tire. At the
end of the day, Thomas returns to
a small, smoke-filled room ,and
though he's surrounded by others,
it’s a lonely existence.
