Ans: Mercury has a thin atmosphere whereas Venus has a thick atmosphere and has abundant
quantity of carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide traps the heat inside and does not let it go.

Ans: The amount of sunlight and heat received by the different regions varies due to the tilt of
the Earth. As we go away from the equator towards the poles, the sun rays become more and
more slanted . As a result, the light and heat received in the polar regions is so little that they
remain covered with ice throughout the year.
