a) Mr. Ali has ₹7,844 with him. How much more money does he need, if he wants to buy a washing machine
for ₹12,000?
__Cost of washing machine = ₹ 12,000 ₹1 2 0 0 0
Amount Mr. Ali had with him = ₹ 7,844 - ₹7844
Amount he still needs = ₹12,000 - ₹ 7,844 = ₹ 4,156 ₹4156
Ans : Mr. Ali needs ₹ 4,156 more to buy the washing machine.
b) The taxi fare for each kilometer travelled is ₹50.50 with that an extra ₹10 have to be paid for riding the
taxi. If a man travels 8 km through taxi, then how much change will he get back after giving a ₹ 500 note to the
taxi driver?
Taxi fare for each kilometer = ₹ 50.50.
Taxi fare for 8km = ₹ 50.50 X 8 = ₹ 404. ₹5 0.5 0
Cost of riding taxi = ₹ 404 + ₹ 10 = ₹414. X 8
