Mapping of the South Giziga People Group
Mapping is a land survey of the target community and aims
at gathering all vital information necessary for the missions
project. The Missionary should know where he is going to
and what to expect there, because this will help him
anticipate all necessary elements for the success of his
mission

Comparison between Moutouroua and Mindif

Conclusion: Even though Mindif is more populated than

Moutouroua, yet Moutouroua is more densed than Mindif,
and therefore is the more suitable area for the Church
plant

Economic Activities
Most of the South Giziga are farmers who raise crops on
hillside terraces. Peanuts, maize and millet are among the
main crops

A Giziga man's work includes crafting leather, making baskets,

spinning, weaving, and building

Children take care of the small animals and help their older
siblings or parents do other household chores
Women make clay objects, train the small children, prepare the meals,
and do other household activities. A woman may also raise her own
crops on a small plot of land. The profits earned from selling these
crops belong to the woman

Building

Their villages are composed of several round buildings made of mud

brick and thatched roofs. The buildings are connected to one another
by woven straw fences or hedges. The buildings are positioned so that
there is an open area in the center

Community Needs
The most important needs in the South Giziga region are needs to potable water
supply and good education. According to UNICEF (25 Sep 2024), 262 schools were
destroyed, damaged or cut off by the floods, and over 40% of boreholes, the primary
source of drinking water, are either inaccessible, submerged, or damaged

Government Development Projects

A Project Development Objective (PDO) was

launched by the Government in March 2023,
that deals with Enhancing Connectivity and
Resilience in the Far North Region of Cameroon
for Inclusiveness (P178207), implemented by
the Ministry of Economy, Planning, and
Regional Development. The estimated budget
of the project was US$195.0 million and
targeted the transport sector
II) Demographic Mapping (1/4) 23
South Giziga has a population of 151,000 people
The main language spoken there is Giziga
II) Demographic Mapping (2/4) 24
Culture
The Giziga culture contains various arts such as vocal and
instrumental music. These instruments are played during
festivals and at special ceremonies
II) Demographic Mapping (3/4) 25
Marriage

Although polygamy is permitted among the South

Giziga, most men usually have only one wife.
Marriages are almost always arranged by the
parents; children do not choose their own mates.
When they make an agreement, there is payment of
a bride-price to the bride's parents and a new
homestead begins

Origin
Kirdi (meaning "pagan") is a broad, collective name
for several people groups living in northern
Cameroon, southeastern Nigeria, and southwestern
Chad. At one time, all these groups were completely
animistic. Today, some have become Muslim and
wear traditional Islamic dress. There are several
Kirdi groups, one of which is the South Giziga
people in Cameroon
III) Historical Mapping (2/2) 28

Etymology

The etymology of the name Gisiga/Giziga remains

unclear. First mentioning of the ‘Gisiga’ is by
Stumpell (1922:60), who identifies them as the
eastern neighbours of the ‘Muffu’ (see page Mofu
groups). R. Lukas (1973:46) claims that the name
‘Gisiga, Gizga’ has been given to them by the Fulbe,
and that it is also the name for their chiefly clan

Beliefs
Most South Giziga believe in a single god who is the creator of all
things and who keeps his creation in order. They believe that this
god only intervenes with his creation when order has been
disturbed. The Giziga do not pray to this god, but rather to their
ancestors, whom they believe will intercede on their behalf

Each South Giziga clan has its own "therapist-diviner" or medicine

man. He benefits the community by supplying various medicines. He
also serves as a mediator between the people and the spirits and
performs minor surgical operations. The medicine man is paid with
modest gifts from the villagers. The Giziga believe that the Earth is the
"mother goddess" who has birthed all other "supernatural" beings,
including thunder and lightning, black snakes, crocodiles, and certain
inanimate objects

37
Church Project Planning (2/7)
I) Conception Phase (1/3)
Vision: Our vision is to preach the true Gospel of Jesus
Christ to the unreached people group of South Giziga,
make 500 disciples for Jesus, plant a New Testament
Church there in Moutouroua from 2025 to 2030, lead the
Christians to Spiritual Maturity, and prepare them for the
return of the Lord Jesus Christ

Mission: Our mission as a Church is to:

 Worship the Lord Jesus
 Develop to Spiritual Maturity through the Word of
God and Prayers
 Reach out to the lost through Evangelism
38
Church Project Planning (3/7)
I) Conception Phase (2/3)
Goals: In order to achieve this vision, some SMART goals are made,
which are:
 To preach the Gospel and win at least 30 souls per month,
making 360 souls won per year, from 2025 to 2030
 To raise at least 100 disciples of the 360 souls won every year,
making 500 disciples made from 2025 to 2030
 To plant a Church by 2030 in Moutouroua, South Giziga
 To reproduce one new Church in South Giziga from 2030 to 2032
Core Values
 Faith
 Love
 Holiness

Pioneer Team

Ambe Che Nelson Bobvala Derick

Batchanou Tatap Perets Elvis Wolete
Bapoh Justine Ngang Linda
Bissong Peter Tekuh Romanus

The pioneer team is the team that will actually invade the
land and start the Evangelism process.

We shall go out as Classical Missionaries, directly involved

in Church Planting, and accountable and supported by a
Mother Church and Mission
40
Church Project Planning (5/7)
II) Gestation Phase (1/2)

1. Meeting with the Stakeholders: This is the first step to

be done, and we will meet the Governor of the Far
North region, as well as the Lamido of Moutouroua, in
order to establish good relationships and announce
our mission in the community

2. Evangelism and Discipleship: This is the next step that

will be carried out for the first 3 years, where we shall
go out to the public places, in homes, in markets and
in every public gathering and preach the true Gospel
of Jesus Christ by the Power of the Holy Spirit
41
Church Project Planning (6/7)
II) Gestation Phase (2/2)
3. Renting of the Church Hall: As more and more people
turn to Jesus, we will look for a hall to rent, where we
shall gather as followers of Christ and grow in
discipleship, holiness, worship to God, prayers and the
study of the Word of God. We shall begin searching for
the hall from the end of the first year in 2025

4. Fund Raising and Church Construction: According our

strategy, by 2028 we would have won 1,080 souls for
Christ and made 300 disciples. This will make us ripe
enough to contribute and acquire land in order to build
the Church. The Church building project is a 2-year
project that will start in 2028 and end in 2030
Church Project Planning (7/7) 42
III) Birth Phase
As from 2030, the Church plant is born and open to the
public. It functions as a center for worship, care,
evangelism and discipleship. However, the church is still
making its first steps, and finding its balance.
IV) Maturity Phase
In this phase, from 2030 to 2032, we shall raise new
indigenous leaders from among the South Giziga people who
will carry on the vision of the mission and reach out in the
community to preach to the lost and make more disciples.
Since they will be more in number than the pioneer team, we
believe that in 2 years, they will do what we have done in 5
years, and plant a new Church in South Giziga
At this level, we can conclude that Missio Ecclesiae is a success
Humanitarian Project Planning: Water Supply 43

Conception
and Survey

Storage Tanks
and Piping
4 Phases Drilling

Ground Water
Abstraction
Water Supply Project Planning (1/5) 44
I) Conception and Survey Phase (1/3)

Vision: To improve the socio-economical status of the South Giziga

people group by providing enough clean water to the town of
Moutouroua and the surrounding communities

Main Objective: To ensure a sustainable access to drinking water

through drilling of borehole

Specific Objectives:
 To improve access to clean water for domestic use and reduce the
risk of water borne diseases prevalence in Moutouroua, South
Giziga, Diamare and Kaele Divisions

 To have access to water for irrigation purposes

Water Supply Project Planning (2/5) 45
I) Conception and Survey Phase (2/3)

Strategy: The type of borehole required is the kind with

generator pumping and water tank storage systems. The
water will be pumped from the borehole to the main tank.
From the main tank the water will be piped to sub-tanks;
that might be located in each village of Yenzuva Sub-
location
Water Supply Project Planning (3/5) 46
I) Conception and Survey Phase (3/3)

Hydro-Geological Survey:

This is basically groundwater resources survey to

determine the Hydro geological nature of the
groundwater potential

From a private conducted survey, the consultancy fee for

this phase is estimated at Kenyan SH.50, 000.00,
equivalent to approximately 250,000 FCFA
Water Supply Project Planning (4/5) 47
II) Drilling Phase

This is the actual groundwater development phase.

Drilling specifications and tender documents will be
prepared by the consulting hydro geologist and sent out
to at least 3 reputable rotary drilling contractors

This phase is a critical one and is highly technical.

Supervision will entail a number of site visits to the
project area. The visits will be followed by technical site
reports. This phase culminates with the test, pumping
of the borehole water
Water Supply Project Planning (5/5) 48
III) Ground Water Abstraction Phase
After drilling operations are completed, necessary
borehole characteristics will have been received to enable
the selection of the suitable electrical submersible pump
IV) Storage Tanks and Piping
To store water pumped from the borehole, there is need to
have three main tanks of 10,000 liters each installed at the
main water supply. Pipes will be connected to these three
tanks that will be channeled to each water kiosk of each
village. Each water kiosk will then have a main regulating
water meter. Families that are interested to have water for
irrigation will also be required to have meters for regulation
purposes
49
III BUDGETING

Once again, the budgeting of the Missions Project

can be divided into two

1.Church Planting Budget

2.Water Supply Budget
Church Planting Budget 50
Water Supply Budget 51
Conclusion 52

In the light of Matthew 28:19 which says “Therefore go and

make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”, we
believe that launching out to unreached people groups with
the true Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ by the power of
the Holy Spirit is a great way to accomplish the Great
Commission. God’s heart beat is for all mean to be saved,
and that is what we intend to do. However, we have seen
that missionary work demands funding, and therefore, it is
important to support the missionary financially, and also
spiritually, morally, materially and socially, in order to
advance the kingdom of God to the glory of Jesus Christ.
