Chapter 1

1.1 Overview

Topcon’s Color Mapping 32 is a 32bit multiple-document report Windows application

running under Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT and Microsoft Windows XP.

Color Mapping 32 works with the tri-function Topcon KR-7000P/ KR-7100P/ KR-
8000PA/ KR-8100PA/ KR-8100P, auto-refractometer, expanded auto-keratometer and
placido disk-based corneal mapping system. The data captured by the KR-7000P/ KR-
7100P/ KR-8000PA/ KR-8100PA/ KR-8100P is transferred to Color Mapping 32 via an
RS-232C interface, and is then reconstructed into corneal topography color map data.
The multiple documents include refractometer data, keratometer data, and a corneal
topography color map. To send refractometer and/or keratometer data to the TOPCON
CV Power Supply Unit, the Color Mapping 32 creates the necessary data for the
TOPCON CV Power Supply Unit and sends it using the second RS-232C port of the PC.

After reconstructing the corneal topography color map data, the multiple document report
may be viewed on the Windows screen or printed on a color printer.

The Color Mapping 32 provides various options for evaluating cornea, such as tangential
/ sagittal map, adjustable / normalized / absolute map, diopter / mm display, overlay
information display, auto-print, contact lens fitting simulation, etc. Default option
parameters may also be set.

An important feature of Color Mapping 32 is that it creates and supports a patient

information database. The database services integrated in the software speeds-up patient
data storage/ retrieval and simplifies data analysis.

If the auto-print option is enabled, Color Mapping 32 prints a multiple-document report

to a color printer automatically using default option parameters when new data is
received from the KR-7000P/ KR-7100P/ KR-8000PA/ KR-8100PA/ KR-8100P.

Chapter 2

Setup Color Mapping 32 System

2.1 System Requirements

2.1.1 Hardware Requirements

The following hardware is necessary to run Color Mapping 32:

· 100% IBM PC compatible computer with i-486DX or better

· Minimum 8MB of system memory
· Minimum 1MB of video memory
· 2MB of free disk space at installation
· A color printer supported by Windows
· An available COM port*
· A KR-7000P/ KR-7100P/ KR-8000PA/ KR-8100PA/ KR-8100P to PC interface
cable**
* To send the refractometer and/or keratometer data to the TOPCON CV Power Supply
Unit, an additional COM port is needed.
** To send the refractometer and/or keratometer data to the TOPCON CV Power Supply
Unit, the PC to CV Power Supply Unit interface cable is needed.

In the above specifications, the video memory and the system memory may be the most
important hardware for Color Mapping 32. For a computer with 1MB of video memory,
the video mode can be set to 1024x768 256 colors and 640x480 16-million colors.

The faster the computer CPU, the better the performance of Color Mapping 32. In
general, performance of Windows is influenced most by the amount of system memory
and the speed of the hard disk. If the system appears to be running slow, try adding
system memory first. If it still seems slow, upgrade the computer with a faster CPU and
much larger hard disk.

Note that the necessary memory capacity and hard disk capacity
may differ for each PC.

2.1.2 Software Requirement

To run Color Mapping 32, the following software is necessary:

· Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT or Microsoft Windows XP.

· The video mode of Windows should be set to at least 640x480 x 256 colors.

3.3 Operating Color Mapping 32

Once Color Mapping 32 is started, the communication port will be initialized
automatically and ready to receive transfer data from the KR-7000P/ KR-7100P/KR-
8000PA/ KR-8100PA/ KR-8100P. When the data is received, the corneal topography
mapping data is reconstructed, and a new report window is created automatically. Use
the menu icons on the tool bar as a short cut for some menu items. A menu item or a
menu icon displayed in gray means that the item or the icon is not available at that time.
If the port for the TOPCON CV Power Supply Unit has been set, the Color Mapping 32
creates the necessary data using the specified data format and sends it to the TOPCON
CV Power Supply Unit.

6.2 Parameters of the Contact Lens Simulation Report

Abbreviations for the Contact Lens simulation report:

BC Base curve (mm)
BC2 Base curve 2 for toric lens (mm)BC must be greater then BC2
E1 Eccentricity of aspheric lens
TD Total diameter of a lens (mm)
OZ Optic zone (mm) (which affects the optical function of a lens)
SC Secondary curve (mm)
SCW Secondary curve width (mm)
E2 Eccentricity for secondary curve
PC Peripheral curve (mm)
PCW Peripheral curve width (mm)
PC2 Peripheral curve 2 for toric lens (mm) PC must be greater than PC2
AEL Axial edge lift (mm)
VD Vertex distance of spectacles (mm)
PWR Power of the contact lens to correct refraction spherical data (mm)
PanH amount of horizontal lens lag from the corneal (mm)
PanV amount of vertical lens lag from the corneal center (mm)
TilH Horizontal lens tilt angle (mm)
TilV Vertical tilt angle (mm)

For a three curve contact lens, BC, TD, OZ, SC, SCW, PC, and PCW are necessary. If
for a two-curve lens, SC and SCW, or PC and PCW may be omitted. Either SC or PC can
be ignored if their width field (SCW or PCW) is zero.

6.3 Handling Each Lens Type

Lens types can be set in the parameter setting dialog box.
RGP For a RGP lenses, a total of three curves including a base curve ( BC ), a
secondary curve ( SC ), and a peripheral curve ( PC ), are available.
Alternatives ( i.e. BC+SC only, or BC+PC only ) are also available.

TORIC When a TORIC lens type has been selected, the BC2 and PC2 data fields
will be activated. There are basic curve 2 and peripheral curve2,
respectively. Listed below are two available lens structures in the TORIC
lens type.
BC (toric) + SC (spheric) + PC (spheric)
BC (toric) + PC (toric)

If the PC value is same as the PC2 value, the contact lens simulation
function assumes the lens has spherical peripheral curves. In this case, the
SC, and SCW fields will be activated. However, if PC differs from PC2,
since this is a toric peripheral, the SC and SCW fields become disabled.

ASPHERIC When an ASPHERIC lens type has been selected, the E1 and E2 fields
will be activated. The meanings of these fields are eccentricity 1 and 2
Page 45 TOPCON Corporation
respectively. These values are calculated from the corneal topography,
and initially, the two values are the same. One or both of them may be
changed according to the manufacture’s lens specification. For a spherical
secondary curve, set E2 equal to 0 to make it represent a spherical
secondary curve. Use the two lens structure as follows:
BC (aspheric) + SC (aspheric) + PC (spheric)
BC (aspheric) + SC (spheric) + PC (spheric)
In both cases, PC can be omitted when PCW is zero.

SOFT Most SOFT lenses have one BC and One PC, so secondary curve fields
are disabled. The fluorescein simulation is not available for soft lenses.

PMMA For a PMMA lens type, the software treats the lens structure in the same
way as a RGP lens.

6.4 Parameter Setting

When a contact lens simulation report is open or the ‘Contact Lens Fitting’ function from
a color map report has been called for the first time, the parameters may be changed for
that report. To get the parameter setting dialog box menu, choose ‘Change Parameters’
from the [Utility] menu, or click the parameter icon on the tool bar. The following dialog
box will be displayed to change parameters. (‘Select Data Set’ item will be appeared only
when some contact lens data were registered – See Section 6.5 ):

Figure 6-4 Parameter Setting dialog box

Page 46 TOPCON Corporation

Map Type
Absolute map type connects tear layer thickness to an actual fluorescent color.
Normalized map type assigns colors to express the entire thickness range.

Overlays
The functions of the Overlay group of controls are the same as functions of the Overlay
control group in the Map Option Settings dialog box for the Color Map Report document
type, refer to the Section 5.4 of the manual.

Reference BC
Parameter helps to find a base curve that meets a certain apical clearance demand. The
software finds the radius of curvature of a sphere, which is defined by three points.
These points are the center of the lens with a certain apical clearance, and two optic zone
end points, which touch the cornea.

Sagittal Vault
If the sagittal vault value is supposed to be a certain value, input that value. An
appropriate TD value will be calculated for this sagittal vault.

Axial Edge Lift

The required AEL (Axial Edge Lift) value is specified, the software finds the appropriate
PC value.

Graph Setting: Profile Graph

The tear layer thickness profile graph is displayed at the specified angle value.

Graph Setting: Isometric Graph

The circular tear layer variation graph is displayed at the specified radius value.

Select Data Set

The pull down scroll list appears when more then one contact lens data sets have been
registered. The software will set the parameters based on the selected contact lens data
set.
