Bar Bending Schedule (BBS)
REINFORCEMENT QUANTITY ESTIMATION
In RCC works, steel reinforcement may be used in the form of
(a) plain round steel bars, (b) deformed bars, (c) cold twisted bars (d) hot drawn steel tendons (in pre-stressed concrete structures) Accurate quantities of steel works can be calculated from the detailed reinforcement drawings. If working drawings and schedules for the reinforcement are not available it is necessary to provide an estimate of the anticipated quantities. Estimation of Reinforced Steel:
● Quantity of steel required depends on the components of structure, i.e.
slabs, beams, columns, foundations, roads etc. ● The quantity of steel is estimated by assuming the percentage of reinforcement for different components. ● Following are the percentage of reinforcement steel generally required per different components. Its values can vary from structure to structure, and can be assumed from past experiences of similar structure. Approximate percentage of steel required
❖ For slabs = 1.0 % of concrete volume.
❖ For Beam = 2 % concrete volume.
❖ For column = 2.5 % of concrete volume.
❖ For RCC Roads, 0.6% concrete volume.
Bar Bending Schedule (BBS)
● Bar bending schedule or schedule of bars (BBS) is a list of reinforcement
bars for a given reinforced concrete work items presented in a tabular form for easy visual reference. ● Table of bar bending schedule summarizes all the needed particulars of bars - diameter, shape of bending, length of each bent and straight portions, angles of bending, total length of each bar, and number of each type of bar. ● This information is a great help in preparing an estimate of quantities. Importance of Bar Bending Schedule:
● The amount of reinforcement needed in a building project, particularly a house, can be
determined with the help of a bar bending schedule. ● Early planning of the necessary steel reinforcements’ cutting and bending cuts down on waste and unnecessary expenses. ● The cutting and bending procedure can also be completed in the warehouse before transporting it, which speeds up construction and lowers transportation expenses provided the reinforcement plans are received in advance. ● If the reinforcements are bent and chopped prior to pouring the concrete, site engineers’ jobs will be made easier. The necessary column for the bar bending schedule can be listed as follows:
1. Bar number/Bar Mark Reference
2. Bar shape 3. Number of bars 4. Length of bar 5. Diameter 6. Spacing 7. Unit weight etc. Bar Bending Schedule (BBS) format
