Understanding My Very Own Self

Understanding the self is an important aspect of being whole. Without

knowing ourselves, our true selves, we will feel parts of us are missing
throughout our lives. Understanding the self has many views. One of them is
philosophical. You may wonder what philosophical or philosophy means.
Philosophical or philosophy refers to questioning about the nature of identity,
consciousness, and personal existence. It also means thinking logically and
critically. It involves questioning, analyzing, and evaluating evidence to come
up with a well-reasoned and fact-based conclusion. It comes from two Greek
words: "Philo," which means love, and "Sophia," which means wisdom. The
word philosophy literally means love for wisdom. Speaking of philosophy, one
of the famous philosophers, "Socrates," says, "Know thyself.". Knowing
ourselves is important in our lives. It gives our lives meaning and purpose.
Without understanding ourselves, we might lose our sense of belonging. We
also lose our purpose and may go in the wrong direction. Since philosophy is
part of understanding the self, thinking critically and logically can help us
know ourselves. For example, when making a statement with other
individuals, we need to think logically and critically before telling our
statement because our statement may have something that can offend
someone and might seem insensitive. Making a statement without thinking
can cause an argument and become vitriolic. Which can turn into more
problems. I personally experience being in an argument due to not thinking
critically and logically. We were having a conversation with my mom. Then
one moment I stated something that offended her. Which causes more
problems and leads to a bigger one. I have realized my mistake and
apologize to her sincerely. I realized that I should have thought more before
saying that statement. Having that experience made me realize how
important it is to be critical and logical on everything so that we won't go to
the wrong path. Knowing ourselves is also important so that we know the
purpose of our existence. Knowing ourselves is very helpful because it allows
the chance for personal growth and self-awareness. It allows us to
investigate our beliefs and values for the better choice. The advantage of
logical thinking lies in a substantial enrichment of problem-solving skills
through fast and effective solutions. Self-awareness helps to realize one's
strengths and weaknesses and thus directs further development. Critical
thinking fosters open-mindedness and flexibility in new situations. The use of
logical schemes will help to better assess the information for its validity and
avoid cognitive biases. In the end, self-awareness combined with critical
thinking allows people confidently to feel their way in life.

I pondered over this point. Realized the importance of it. Personal

growth and self-awareness are correlated in a major way. That is, helping us
make informed decisions and take purposeful actions. Self-awareness is to
find our own strengths and weaknesses at different levels in all walks of life.
It provides a way to act in congruity with who we really are. That we all
fantastically work in progress. Letting go of perfection means embracing this
fact. It frees up room to invest our efforts in making ourselves grow. We learn
to love and respect ourselves by doing so. We will be able to relate with
other individuals, too, by trusting and understanding them likewise. The
secret to connecting well lies there. We have to know what lifelong learning
comprises. The world just keeps on changing. Likewise, we humans need to
evolve and change. This is inevitable to be able to allow adaptation of all

forms. We should be bound by the openness of different levels of

consciousness and thinking. But, we can be much wiser with our choices with
greater knowledge about ourselves. It shapes us into who we are today. We
must also doubt the way we see things. We are all supposed to take that leap
out of our warm and fuzzy comfort zones. And, then we could understand our
new capabilities and potentials. We can be at our full potential. These are
things I know to be important-like the value of self-compassion. It is we who
have to be kind to ourselves. Take time to practice self-care activities such as
meditating or some yoga. These behaviors cause improved mental and
emotional health, further strengthening your sense of self-compassion. We
must become optimistic and grateful. Exercise gratitude; appreciate what is
going well and pay attention to all of life's good things-and thank them. It's
very important for health and happiness. Healthy relationships invite joy and
sorrow together; support each other through tough times, teach, and learn
from one another, while growing. The path of life itself never goes straight,
nor is it simply crossed. There are ups and downs. There are obstacles and
challenges. So long as we are being authentic to ourselves, open and willing,
taking responsibility for our own lives, we can build a life we can take pride
in.

These are the following resolutions with which I come up, using these
reflections, in order to help in my growth and development as a person. I will
be more aware of myself each day. Reflection of thoughts, emotions, and
actions will be done. I will learn to accept myself wholly with all my strengths
and weaknesses. I shall use my positive attributes as an encouragement. I
will be more honest about how I feel with myself and others; I will express
my feelings in a healthy, constructive manner. I will take responsibility for my
every action. Whatever I decide and the consequences thereof, I own. I will
find new experiences and knowledge that widen my skills. I will be
compassionate and kind to myself. I let go of mistakes and focus on progress.
I will work at building and maintaining healthy relationships. I will be true to
myself, representative of what I am, living with integrity, and authentic in
life. I nourish my body, mind, and feelings with proper eating, appropriate
exercise, adequate rest, and effective stress management. I am going to be
more patient and persistent. I am going to be more patient and unyielding. I
am not going to give up easily facing certain challenges. Well-organized,
more efficient. I am going to make a schedule and then plan priorities. I shall
come up with new ideas. I'm gonna have so much fun, be playful, and not
take life that seriously after all; time is spent through happiness. I am going
to be more family-oriented and get a chance to spend so much more time
with my loved ones. I support one another, and we make new memories. I'm
going to be more community-minded and take part in my community. I am
going to serve others and build a sense of community belongingness within
myself. I will become more optimistic, with a great outlook on life. I am going
to dwell on the positive and just believe tomorrow will be an improvement.
I'm going to nurture myself and make my own decisions. I'll be more
resilient; I can easily bounce back from adversities. I will consider setbacks
as opportunities that foster growth. Through this thought and attitude, I hope
to comprehend and find myself, the truest me, and be the best self. At the
end of this reflection, I hope I am still continuously working on a better
attitude. Knowing myself through this reflection is a way of understanding
how others see me in their perspective in understanding myself better.
Through this reflection and the lessons that we had this week, I have gained
more knowledge that can help me build the path to a bright future.
Knowledge that will build up my entire self.
