Step 2 (5 minutes): learn new vocabulary (10 fruits).

And then teacher

can use the family members (see appendix D) as the subjects to construct a few new sentences.
Step 3 (6 minutes): Bingo game 这是什么?(Appendix A-1, A-2, A-3)

In order to let students familiar with the new fruits vocabularies, we do the following bingo
game to learn the vocabularies as a practice activity:
Every student has a copy of the Bingo sheet (refer to appendix A-1, A-2, A-3) and then teacher calls
out the fruit to play the bingo game as a hands-on game to reinforce the new vocabularies.

Step 4 (4 minutes): To describe the fruit with the appropriate color (student learned colors
before).

Teacher asks the following questions to describe the fruit with the color as the review of the colors
and familiar with the new fruit vocabularies:

Step 5: (5 minutes) Paired- group activity on sentence practice (Appendix B)

Two students (as a partner) practice on the fruits that they like or dislike with the hand-out sheet
(Appendix B). Students use these two sentences to practice with the fruit vocabularies:

Step 6: (10 minutes): Group-activity (Appendix C - Survey sheet)-paper and writing tool
All of the students are divided into two groups (A & B). Team A students face the Team B students to
form two lines. Each student has a copy of the survey sheet (Appendix C) to ask the question listed
on Appendix C. One student from the end of Team A moves to the other end after one question is
asked and then two different students face each other ask and answer the same question. After all of
the questions been asked, and then students can go on to the next activity.

Step 7: (5 minutes): To share the survey information.

After the group-activity (survey) finished, teacher asks one of the students who like to eat apple,
banana, pear, and pineapple, strawberry, and grape, watermelon, orange, cherry and peach.
The student answers the question from his/her own survey sheet.
And then teacher continues to ask different student to answer one of the 10 questions from the
survey sheet.

Step 8: (10 minutes): Small group skit presentation and homework.

The whole class can be divided into a few small groups to do a skit presentation. Each group
performs a fruit shopping at supermarket skit. One student does the recording of the skit
performance in the classroom and posts it into the wikispaces and then each team can go to the
wikispaces website to type out the skit as a part of the participation score. The other part of the
homework is to practice writing and making 10 sentences with the 10 new fruits.

Culture notes:

Pear: Pears shouldn't be split by two people (fen1 li2 = split apart). But this could be avoided by
cutting the pair on a cloth (bu4 fen1 li2 = won't split apart).
Peach: Traditional birthday cake in Chinese is the peach- look buns.
Watermelon: Chinese eat watermelon seeds and even have watermelon seeds spit contest.
“Watermelon tai chi” is a very popular tai chi movement.
