Q1 Two insulated charged copper spheres A and B of identical size have 5 Days
charges qA and –3qA respectively. When they are brought in contact with
each other and then separated, what are the new charges on them?
Q2 Two charges of magnitudes – 3Q and + 2Q are located at points (a, 0)
and (4a, 0) respectively. What is the electric flux due to these charges
through a sphere of radius ‘5a’ with its centre at the origin?
3. PHYSICS Q3 Two identical point charges, q each, are kept 2 m apart in air. A third
point charge Q of unknown magnitude and sign is placed on the line joining
the charges such that the system remains in equilibrium. Find the position
and nature of Q.
Q4 Given a uniform electric field E =2.1 × 103 𝑖̂ N/C, find the flux of this field
through a square of side 20cm, whose plane is parallel to the Y-Z plane.
What would be the flux through the same square, if the plane makes an
angle of 30° with the x-axis?
Q5 a) Use Gauss’s theorem to find the electric field due to a uniformly
charged infinitely large plane thin sheet with surface charge density σ.
(b) An infinitely large thin plane sheet has a uniform surface charge density
+σ. Obtain the expression for the amount of work done in bringing a point
charge q from infinity to a point, distant r, in front of the charged plane
sheet
Q6 A slab of material of dielectric constant K has the same area as that of
the plates of a parallel plate capacitor but has the thickness d/3, where d is
the separation between the plates. Find out the expression for its
capacitance when the slab is inserted between the plates of the capacitor.
Q7 Find the ratio of the potential differences that must be applied across
the parallel and series combination of two capacitors C1 and C2 with their
capacitances in the ratio 1 : 2 so that the energy stored in the two cases
becomes the same.
Q8 A charge Q is distributed over the surfaces of two concentric hollow
spheres of radii r and R (R >> r),, such that their surface charge densities
are equal. Derive the expression for the potential at the common centre.
Q9 A 12 pF capacitor is connected to a 50 V battery. How much electrostatic
energy is stored in the capacitor? If another capacitor of 6 pF is connected
in series with it with the same battery connected across the combination,
find the charge stored and potential difference across each capacitor.
Q10 A conductor of length ‘l’ is connected to a dc source of potential ‘V’. If
the length of the conductor is tripled by gradually stretching it, keeping ‘V’
constant, how will
(i) drift speed of electrons and
(ii) resistance of the conductor be affected? Justify your answer.
Q11 Use Kirchhoff’s laws to determine the value of current I1 in the given
electrical circuit.

Q12 Two heating elements of resistance R1 and R2 when operated at a

constant supply of voltage, V, consume powers P1 and P2 respectively.
Deduce the expressions for the power of their combination when they are,
in turn, connected in
(i) series and
(ii) parallel across the same voltage supply.
Q13 Two identical cells of emf 1.5 V each joined in parallel supply energy to
an external circuit consisting of two resistances of 7 Ω each joined in
parallel. A very high resistance voltmeter reads the terminal voltage of cells
to be 1.4 V. Calculate the internal resistance of each cell.

Q14 A long straight wire AB carries a current of 4 A. A proton P travels at 4 ×

106 ms–1 parallel to the wire 0.2m from it and in a direction opposite to the
current as shown in the figure. Calculate the force which the magnetic field
due to the current carrying wire exerts on the proton. Also specify its
direction.
Q15 Two identical circular loops, P and Q, each of radius r and carrying
currents I and 2I
respectively are lying in parallel planes such that they have a common
axis. The direction
of current in both the loops is clockwise as seen from O which is
equidistant from the
both loops. Find the magnitude of the net magnetic field at point.

Q16 (a) State the condition under which a charged particle moving with
velocity v goes undeflected in a magnetic field B. (b) An electron, after
being accelerated through a potential difference of 104 V, enter a uniform
magnetic field of 0.04 T, perpendicular to
its direction of motion. Calculate the radius of curvature of its trajectory.
Q17 Two identical coils P and Q each of radius R are lying in perpendicular
planes such that
they have a common centre. Find the magnitude and direction of
magnetic field at the
common centre of the two coils, if they carry currents equal to I and 3 I
respectively
Q18 A circular coil of ‘N’ turns and diameter‘d’ carries a current ‘I’. It is
unwound and
rewound to make another coil of diameter ‘2d’, current ‘I’ remaining the
same. Calculate
the ratio of the magnetic moments of the new coil and the original coil.
Q19 (a) An electron moving horizontally with a velocity of 4 × 104 m/s enters a
region of uniform magnetic field of 10–5 T acting vertically upward as shown in the
figure. Draw its trajectory and find out the time it takes to come out of the region of
magnetic field.
(b) A straight wire of mass 200 g and length 1.5 m carries a current of 2A. It is
suspended in mid-air by a uniform magnetic field B. What is the magnitude of the
magnetic field?
Q20 (i) Using Gauss Theorem show mathematically that for any point outside the
shell, the field due to a uniformly charged spherical shell is same as the entire
charge on the shell, is concentrated at the centre.
(ii) Why do you expect the electric field inside the shell to be zero according to this
theorem?
