4.The linear magnification produced by a spherical mirror is +1/3. Analysing this value state the 2
(i) type of mirror and
(ii) position of the object with respect to the pole of the mirror. Draw any diagram to justify your answer.
5.(a) To construct a ray diagram we use two rays which are so chosen that it is easy to know their directions after
reflection from the mirror. Use these two rays and draw ray diagram to locate the image of an object placed between pole
and focus of a concave mirror.
(b) A concave mirror produces three times magnified image on a screen. If the objects placed 20 cm in front of the mirror,
how far is the screen from the object? 2
6. (a ) What are hydrocarbons? Give examples. 2
(b ) Give the structural differences between saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons with two examples each.
(c ) What is a functional group? Give examples of four different functional groups.
7. (a) (i) Write two properties of gold which make it the most suitable metal for ornaments. 2
(ii) Name two metals which are the best conductors of heat.
(iii) Name two metals which melt when you keep them on your palm.
(b) Explain the formation of ionic compound CaO with electron-dot structure. Atomic numbers of calcium and oxygen
are 20 and 8 respectively.
8.“A ray of light incident on a rectangular glass slab immersed in any medium emerges parallel to itself.” Draw labelled
ray diagram to justify the statement”. 2
