REFLECTION

( Justin Lecz T. Reyes FM- F4)

Dr. José Rizal is one of the most important people in Philippine history. He was a
genius, a writer, a scientist, and a national hero. His life and works continue to inspire
Filipinos today. He showed us the value of education, love for the country, and courage to
fight for what is right.

Rizal was born on June 19, 1861, in Calamba, Laguna. He was the seventh of
eleven children in his family. His parents, Francisco Mercado and Teodora Alonso, raised
him to value education and hard work. As a child, he was very smart and curious, which
made him stand out. He studied a lot and learned many things, like science, medicine, and
different languages.

As a writer, Rizal used his talent to fight for justice. He wrote two famous novels, Noli
Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. These books talked about the problems of Filipinos
under Spanish rule. In Noli Me Tangere, he told the story of Crisostomo Ibarra, a man who
wanted to reform the country. In El Filibusterismo, the story continued with Simoun, Ibarra’s
alter ego, who wanted revenge and planned a revolution. These books inspired many
Filipinos to stand up for their rights.

Rizal faced challenges while publishing his books. He didn’t have enough money,
but his friend Valentin Ventura helped him. Without Ventura’s help, these important books
might not have been published.

Rizal’s personal life was also full of struggles. He loved Leonor Rivera, and she is
said to be the inspiration for Maria Clara in Noli Me Tangere. But their love story was sad
because Leonor was forced to marry someone else. Even with this heartbreak, Rizal stayed
focused on his mission to help the Philippines.

Rizal was brave and ready to sacrifice his life for his country. He was executed on
December 30, 1896, but his death became a symbol of hope and freedom for the Filipino
people.
Rizal’s life teaches us many lessons. He showed us that education is important and
can help us fight for our rights. He also showed us the value of loving our country and
standing up for what is right, even when it’s hard.

When I think about Rizal, I feel inspired to do my best in my own life. Even small
actions can make a difference. Rizal’s story reminds us that we all have a role in making
our country better.
