Oceans Impact on Weather Lab Report
Oceans Impact on Weather Lab Report
In this lab we were trying to figure out how the ocean impacted all types of weather.
With this, we took two beaches that were ruined of tree life after a hurricane. We took our
independent and dependent variables, the mangrove trees and their growth, and came up
with a hypothesis. We came up with if we plant the trees that were destroyed during the
hurricane right after it happened, then the trees will grow back 5 years post hurricane.
For this lab, we took the two beaches, the north beach and the south beach, and
replanted the different species of mangrove trees in the north beach while we let the south
beach naturally regrow over time. Then for the next five years we monitored their growth via
satellite, while recording the percentage of mangrove coverage, the number of species in
the area, and the average mangrove height which are all in the tables below. Then we took
the data from our percentage of mangrove coverage and the number of species and
created line graphs for them.
In conclusion, we found that letting the south beach grow back naturally came out
with better results than replanting the north beach. We also found that counting the
number of species was important so that we could see if letting them grow back naturally
would cause all the species to return or not, in which not all of them came back when let
grown naturally, but it was close. After five years we measured the height of each
mangrove species, finding that the south beach had better growth. This has grown to be
helpful since we can see what method concluded with better results, so that we can use
the better outcome in case another hurricane like this has happened.
