MODULE 7
MODULE 7
IV.My Learnings (Answer the following questions comprehensively to describe what you learned from the attended session.
You may include data or literature to explain your claims.)
1. What are the fundamental principles that you have learned from the topics discussed?
The module has highlighted three fundamental principles that are essential for creating a successful
and equitable learning environment: equity and inclusion, social-emotional learning (SEL), and
self-care. Equity and inclusion emphasize providing equal opportunities for all learners, regardless of
their background, abilities, or circumstances. It involves creating a learning environment where
diversity is celebrated and every student feels valued and supported. This principle is grounded in the
recognition that all learners have unique needs and deserve access to quality education.
Social-emotional learning (SEL) emphasizes the importance of developing emotional intelligence and
social skills in students. It recognizes that students' academic success is intertwined with their
emotional well-being and their ability to navigate social situations effectively. The five core
competencies of SEL – self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and
responsible decision-making – provide a framework for fostering holistic development in students.
Finally, self-care is essential for professionals working with young people. It involves actively looking
after one's mental and physical well-being to effectively support students. By prioritizing self-care,
professionals can maintain their energy, manage stress, and enhance their professional performance.
2. How do these courses/topics help your academic journey as a professional or future school
head?
These topics are instrumental in shaping my academic journey as a future school head. Understanding and
applying the principles of equity and inclusion will be crucial in creating a school environment that is
welcoming, inclusive, and equitable for all students. This involves developing policies, implementing
programs, and fostering a culture that values diversity and addresses the needs of all learners. Integrating SEL
into the school curriculum and fostering a supportive school climate will be essential for fostering students'
emotional and social development. This will involve training teachers in SEL strategies, providing students
with opportunities to practice SEL skills, and creating a school environment that promotes positive
relationships and emotional well-being. Recognizing the importance of self-care will enable me to prioritize
my own well-being as a school head. This will involve developing healthy habits, seeking support when
needed, and creating a school culture that values self-care for all staff members.
3. What action will I take to apply what I have learned?
To effectively apply these principles, I will implement a comprehensive action plan that addresses each area.
For equity and inclusion, I will conduct a school-wide audit to identify areas where equity and inclusion can
be improved. I will then develop and implement policies that promote equity and inclusion in all aspects of
school life. Additionally, I will provide professional development opportunities for teachers on culturally
responsive teaching, inclusive practices, and addressing bias. Finally, I will establish partnerships with
community organizations to support students from diverse backgrounds. To integrate SEL into the school, I
will integrate SEL into the school curriculum through various subjects and activities. I will also provide SEL
training for all staff members and create a school-wide SEL program that includes activities, resources, and
support for students. Finally, I will foster a positive school climate that promotes empathy, respect, and
collaboration. To prioritize self-care, I will model self-care practices for staff members and encourage them
to prioritize their own well-being. I will also provide resources and support for staff to manage stress and
maintain their mental health. Finally, I will create a school culture that values self-care and work-life balance.
4. Cite instances where the topics had been applied in your current station.
Even though I'm still a student, I've seen examples of these ideas in action in my own school, Rizal
Technological University (RTU) in the main branch. For instance, RTU has programs to help students from
different backgrounds feel welcome and supported. We also have clubs and activities where students can
learn about social-emotional skills like teamwork and empathy. And teachers encourage us to take care of
ourselves by getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, and taking breaks when we need them. These
experiences have shown me how important these principles are for creating a positive learning environment
for everyone at RTU.
