Assignment No. 1 (Lessons 10-15)

Question 1:
Calculate the correlation coefficient using the following data and interpret the result.
Create a table for the necessary calculations, use the appropriate formula, and include all
the necessary steps.

Age of a Car: 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11

Resale Value: 18, 15, 11, 8, 7, 5

Solution:
Given data:
Age of a Car (X): [2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11]
Resale Value (Y): [18, 15, 11, 8, 7, 5]

Correlation Coefficient Calculation Steps:

n=6
ΣX = 36, ΣY = 64, ΣXY = 310
ΣX² = 266, ΣY² = 808
r = -0.93

Interpretation: The correlation coefficient (r) is -0.93, indicating a strong negative

relationship between the age of the car and its resale value.

Question 2:
Construct a frequency distribution table for the given sample data.
Divide the data into 6 classes, starting with the first class as 0–0.9, and so on.

Solution:
Class Interval Frequency Midpoint
0.0 - 0.9 4 0.5
1.0 - 1.9 8 1.4
2.0 - 2.9 12 2.5
3.0 - 3.9 11 3.5
4.0 - 4.9 9 4.5
5.0 - 5.9 6 5.5
