INTRODUCTION

Pond cleaning is an essential maintenance activity that keeps a pond healthy, visually appealing, and balanced for
its ecosystem. Over time, ponds accumulate debris like fallen leaves, algae, and sediment, which can disrupt the
water's natural balance. If left unattended, these can lead to murky water, unpleasant odors, excessive algae
growth, and oxygen depletion, which harms aquatic life.

Regular pond cleaning involves removing debris, managing algae growth, checking the filtration system, and
sometimes dredging to remove sediment buildup. Whether you have a natural pond, garden pond, or koi pond, proper
cleaning helps maintain water quality and supports the health of plants and animals within the pond
OBJECTIVES

1. Maintain Water Quality:

Removing organic waste, debris, and excess nutrients prevents water from becoming murky or odorous and
keeps it suitable for aquatic life.
2. Control Algae Growth:
Reducing nutrient levels and removing algae helps control overgrowth, preventing oxygen depletion and
maintaining a balanced ecosystem.
3. Preserve Aquatic Life:
By improving oxygen levels and reducing pollutants, pond cleaning supports the health of fish, plants, and other
organisms.
4. Prevent Sediment Build-up:
Regular cleaning prevents excessive sediment from accumulating at the bottom, which can reduce pond depth
and contribute to murky water.
5. Enhance Aesthetic Appeal:

A clean pond with clear water and balanced vegetation improves the overall appearance, making it more
enjoyable for viewing or recreational use.

6. Reduce the Risk of Harmful Organisms:

Clearing debris and maintaining water flow helps prevent harmful bacteria or invasive species from taking over,
which can disrupt the pond’s natural habitat.

7. Support Filtration System Efficiency:

A clean pond prevents clogging and improves the effectiveness of pumps and filtration systems, extending their
lifespan and reducing maintenance costs
OUR CONTRIBUTION
We assembled at the location by 8 am. We had a instructor who gave brief detail about pond cleaning and told us to
split in a group of 5. Then they gave us package to collect the waste from the pond and provided us gloves for safe
hygienic cleaning.Me and my friends collected lot of plastic waste from the pond and helped each other. At last the
instructor gave us a speech about saving the environment and to protect us from causing any harmful disease from
the waste, keep our surroundings clean.

INTRODUCTION

The Sparrow Conservation Foundation is dedicated to creating habitats for house sparrows in urban settings,
raising awareness about nature conservation, studying sparrow ecology establishing educational programs on
biodiversity and
taking necessary legal action to protect natural resources. Sparrows are unique in
their reliance on human-made nests, making this initiative focused on designing and placing these nests in areas
where they are needed most.

Founded with a vision for environmental preservation, the Sparrow Conservation Foundation works to create sustainable
habitats specifically for house sparrows. As one of the most common birds in India and found globally, house sparrows
primarily breed in areas close to human habitation, such as farm and buildings with tile roofs.
Therefore, supporting sparrow populations in urban environments has become our top priority.
Sparrow conservation is essential because sparrows, particularly the house sparrow play a vital role in urban and
rural ecosystems, but their populations have been declining worldwide. This decline has been driven by several
factors, including habitat loss population, changes in agricultural practices, and food scarcity, especially in urban
areas. Here’s why conserving sparrows is crucial.

OBJECTIVES
The Sparrow Foundation typically focuses on healthcare and community support, aiming to improve health outcomes
and provide accessible care. Here are some common objectives associated with healthcare foundations like Sparrow,
though the specifics may vary:

Healthcare Access and Affordability:

Provide financial support for underserved populations to access necessary medical care, including preventive
services and treatments.

.
Community Health and Wellness
: Promote health education, wellness programs, and preventive care within the community to encourage
healthier lifestyles..

Research and Innovation:

Invest in research and development initiatives to improve healthcare treatments, practices, and technologies.

Training and Education:

Support training programs for healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care and to foster future
healthcare leaders.

Emergency and Crisis Response:

Provide funds and support during public health crises, such as pandemics, natural disasters, or emergencies, to
help communities recover and maintain health services.
ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

NAME: SPARROW FOUNDATION

FOUNDATION: B. PANDIARAJAN

Pandiyarajan says his Sparrow Conservation Foundation will extent its activities to the of TN “While we have been
sending nest boxes to people in other districts on request, we want to visit the spots and install the boxes ourselves
wherever there is a sparrow presence. “The organisation started by Pandiyarajan in 2013, has
distributed more than 2000 boxes, covering 90%of the district. One of their first stops in their mission to cover the
state is Madurai. “In around 1800 of our 2000 nest boxes, sparrows have laid eggs and hatched them, “says
Pandiarajan. He has also been invited by Madurai College to assist a few students who are doing a PhD in sparrow
population. Not many know that Pandiarajan, who visits schools and colleges to deliver lectures on the importance of
biodiversity and impact of changing life styles on bird populations.
OUR CONTRIBUTION
We assembled at the mentioned location by 8 am. We had our instructor who gave us a briefing on how to protect
sparrows man made nest. Then we build the best under his guidance. Later the boxes were taken to selective sites
in and around the area where sparrows breed the most. It was with utmost care we assembled the nests. Then few
of our classmates gave feedback about the initiative to the residents.
