Lesson Objectives

01
Identify different types of locomotor
movements, focusing on linear and
lateral movements.

02
Demonstrate correct execution of
linear and lateral locomotor
movements.

03
Apply knowledge by creating a routine
that combines both movement types.
LOCOMOTOR MOVEMENTS refers to
body movements that allow a person to
move from one place to another.
These movements are essential for
developing coordination, balance, and
physical fitness.
Crawl or crawling

Moving on hands and knees, typically with the

torso close to the ground. This movement often
uses alternate hand and knee coordination.
CREEP

Moving even closer to the ground than crawling,

often on the forearms and knees or belly,
keeping the body as low as possible.
LANDING AND JUMPING

Jumping involves pushing off the ground to move upward

or forward, while landing is the controlled process of
coming down with balance and stability to avoid injury.
THROWING

Using the arm to propel an object, developing

coordination between arm movement and whole-body
stability.
LINEAR MOVEMENTS are motions that
travel in a straight direction, either
forwards, backwards, or sideways.
These movements involve continuous
motion along a specific line, helping to
develop coordination, speed, and
endurance.
Hop Skip Leap

Bound Jog Run

LATERAL MOVEMENTS are
motions that occur side to side,
involving movements across the
body’s width. These movements
help improve agility, coordination,
and balance.
Slide, Crossover, and Grapevine: Movements that go
sideways, improving agility and balance as they
engage coordination across both sides of the body.
To perform the lateral crab walk, start in a
seated position with hands behind you and
feet flat on the ground. Lift your hips, then
move one hand and opposite foot sideways,
followed by the other hand and foot. Continue
alternating steps while keeping your body low
and balanced.

Lateral movement skaters involve

jumping side to side, landing on one
leg, and quickly switching to the other
side, improving agility, coordination,
and leg strength.
